Topic: Getting started with Voiceworks Plus

Hi. I'm a newbie with vocal processors. Just got VOiceworks Plus. I don't know MIDI yet but I have a Tascam 2488 neo which is a 24 track mixer and recorder.
My main concern is to get the Voiceworks Plus hooked up to the 2488 correctly. (For now without MIDI to make sure it works))
I only have 2 line cables. I put the vocal in the effect sends 1 of the Tascam and put it in the input of the TC (MONO balanced input). I took the other cable and put it in the left output of the TC.  Then put that in the Tascam Mic line and opened up a stero track for it. I turned off the MIC IN light. I started the 2488 playback vocal track only and had the TC set at the 1st preset. I also tried the setup button. I hear no voice or harmony on the incoming track of the 2488.

If my settings and connections are correct on the 2488 what should my setting be on the TC? I have the Mic light out. Should I  have the Bypass button on? I have the TC set to preset #1 Should I have something else on there? (like the set up button?)
What am I supposed to hear on mu 2488 incoming track? Preset 1 is in A maj (so is my song)
Am I supposed to hear harmony?
Thanks. Any input appreciated.

Re: Getting started with Voiceworks Plus

Hiya jwhite101,

I believe that the issue you are having may largely be due to the way you've setup your Tascam 2488.

I'd say the best thing to do would be to contact Tascam's support department.

You can also reach TC-Helicon's support team via:-

Sorry I was unable to help more this time!

Let me know how you get on.

Best wishes,

Joey

Re: Getting started with Voiceworks Plus

Hi Joey,

Thanks for your reply. I was able to get connect the Tascam successfully. But the quality was not good. Lots of hiss noise.
I tried going directly from my condenser mic to the TC and out to my speakers
directly (they are Mackie 5's with built in amps) but I got nothing. I also tried my dynamic mic and it worked but was feeding back. I put it through the Tascam with earphones and it stopped the feedback. The prob was the quality was not good. I played with the soft knobs but couldn't get a clear harmony (even with the lead OFF. When recording with it, it recorded way too low to be even heard when other tracks are being played. I believe the answers lie in the TC. For someone new to harmonizers I am lost with the manusl. I was able to get different harmonies but now can't get any.
Is there a basic tutorial about settings to start with a how to progress slowly in actual usage?
For example, my vocal track is in A Maj so is the ist TC preset. So does it need to hear accompanying music? What about for other keys?
Thanks,
John

Re: Getting started with Voiceworks Plus

Hi John,
I have a 2488neo and am considering buying a TC Helicon Voice Works unit for pitch correction, harmonizing and other voice effects. I camo to see your post while browsing the net to gather information. I wonder if you managed to solve your problem:
Is it possible to interface the two units such that my arranged output gets out from the 2488neo into the TC helicon to enable it to use that signal to correct my singing? If yes, which plugs should I use? I would put the mic in the helicon and from there in the neo, to record my vocal track while I hear the arranged instruments previously recorded
