Re: voicelive touch with acoustic guitar bleeding

Do you type that way on purpose, or is it voice recognition or something?

If your mic is picking up unwanted sound, I don't see how that is the fault of VLT...

Re: voicelive touch with acoustic guitar bleeding

Its Picking Up The Acoustic Guitar Therefore  Altering The Sound Of The Voicelive I Thought I Made That Clear

Re: voicelive touch with acoustic guitar bleeding

I have exactly the same problem and it drives me insane! I'm using a Shure SM58 which is an awesome mic, but I play in a room sitting down so the guitar is located closely to the mic. A lot of performers tend to play standing up which helps to prevent the guitar from being picked up. If you turn down the Input Level knob and turn up the speakers it can help a bit.

Another problem though, is that it can also pick up sound from the speakers and play it back through the unit. The reason you don't have this problem with the electric guitar is that the electric produces very little acoustic sound so as long as you have the mic away from the amp, it won't give you that trouble.

I'm wondering if, unfortunately, a different mic is needed? Maybe something like the instrument mics but for vocals, where they only pick up sound from a very specific direction. I know the SM58 is "unidirectional" but it's still intended to pick up sound from the sides according to its feature list.

Heya,

Just noticed that there's multiple posts about this duff. In the future, it works best if you limit the subject to a single post so that all of the answers end up in one thread. That way, future users can find the info more easily. smile

PS the thread I answered in was the one in the VoiceLive 2 section, so I moved it here.

Re: voicelive touch with acoustic guitar bleeding

Assuming its an Electric Acustic, a trick used in some studio if player is loud on guitar that is being picked up in vocal mic is to plug the hole in the guitar, as this is where the sound is coming from, you can make your own plug or I think there was one available on the net somewhere. This is not really suitable if you've a mic'd acustic, as it does tend to dis-colour the sound a bit.

I have used this method a few times with differnet players when recording and it does work, but always as a last resort, as normally a good gain structure can elimate the need. ie. Reduce mic gain, or even change the mic for one that is not picking the sound up from wide angles.  I use the clap test, ie mic powered up and set to suitable gain, plug headset in, turn headset volume nice and loud, clap your hands once where the sound will be generated and can you hear the clap, adjust the gain acordingly till you either can just hear the clap or not at all.

If you have your own home studio, this is a good test for room acustics, make sure you have no effects turned on at the mic'd end, and hear wether you get any echo or reverbs, if u do, relocate mic till you find sweet spot. or treat the areas behind the mic and immidiatelly behind you to reduce the echo amount. This is a good starting point then you continue from there.

Hey, I get it, he is just pointing out that the entire paragraph is in title case with no periods.  That is indeed strange. <need to insert smily face here>

Re: voicelive touch with acoustic guitar bleeding

Thanks To Everyone For The Advise But Ive Come To The Conclusion That  Voicelive is Not Meant To Be Used With An Acoustic Guitar ive Tried Various Mics Including Sm58 And They All Produce The Same Result So Ive Decided To Buy A James Tyler Variax JTV59 To Solve The Problem  Hopefully It Works Ill Let You Know Cheers And Good Luck To All

Re: voicelive touch with acoustic guitar bleeding

Nice solution!
I have one of the original Variax- it's my main guitar, my PRS just sits in its case.

Have you played one? The acoustic sounds are only so-so in my opinion...

Re: voicelive touch with acoustic guitar bleeding

just got my tyler variax jtv 59 and its sounds amazing what a difference with the voice live touch no bleeding at all compared to my j200 not the same sound but what a guitar it came in perfect condition did not need to do a thing to it now i am starting to enjoy the voice live touch

Re: voicelive touch with acoustic guitar bleeding

Maybe try a supercardiod mic. SM58 is just cardiod. Wide pickup pattern.
