Midi control of the VLT2 would be awesome. I'd love to assign simple & even more complex tasks to my Ecler Evo5.

Is there not a way to loop incoming Vocals & Aux? I play my Ipad into my VLT. Wondering is there a better way to input audio from an Ipad into the VLT2? I'm currently using a Dual 1/4 Y cable to 3.5mm. Any negatives to pushing the audio into the guitar input? Need to keep the stereo of my Ipad so that I can pan instruments/effects. Any help is greatly appreciated! big_smile

I think TC H will respond to the RC-505 and sooner than you think! Fact is sonically the VLT2 is dedicated to vocal fx and physically is designed for the vocal performer in front of stage not some DJ behind a desk of gear! Yes! the looper on the VLT2 has way too little memory still to offer anything other than short repetitive chordal sequences but maybe they can extend this with either a hardware upgrade or another product. Its a shame TC H didn't implement a much longer recording time on the current model because sonically it walks all over the RC-505. I agree that Roland are somewhat hit and miss with their products as far as what the musicians are actually asking for: they have always had a somewhat austere image. TC are quite the opposite! The fact we are conversing on this site speaks for itself!

I am a Voice Live 2 user and have been for 2 years. I will get the VLT2 because I do want to incorporate some looping in my live show. Even though it lacks the lengthy recording time of other hardware loopers its limitation on this score will force me to adapt to be creative with it which I can see could be to my advantage.

One thing the RC-505 and indeed any other looper out there doesnt have is the superlative TC HARMONY algorithm that is invaluable for my music.

Indeed, limitations can be the key to unlock new avenues in creativity. Thanks for the reminder, sometimes hardware needs to fall short so that the artist/user can be pushed to the next level.

The vocal design aspect is key with the VLT2, I believe with additional Midi Loop control you'd have the market locked either with comprehensive Midi control on the VLT2 or a separate midi control unit w/ Loop & phrase storage (ie EHX 45000). It is amazing the amount of communication and development TC brings to the table... I think for that alone, my future upgrade is leaning toward the VLT2. Plus the unit isn't a deskspace killer like the RC-505. So excited to see where this goes from here... A very interesting time for loop artists indeed! big_smile

Wow. Pretty nice... Almost made the jump to purchase the VLT2 this coming month, needed to upgrade from the VoiceLive Touch which still amazing, fell short in the looping potential (Tracks, Total Record Time, and SD Storage). The VLT2 still seems unique, tactile and an effective tool for a vocalist via it's vocal processing capabilities but the limited recording time is a sore spot.

An alternative that was just announced the EHX 45000, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gKWfvd-chA is yet another sophisticated hardware storage capable looper designed with control & recall in mind. What i like about the EHX 45000 is the adapter/foot pedal that accesses pre-recorded loops for seamless transition into real-time loop creation. Something that TC Helicon should look into as an alternative to the limitations of loop storage on the VLT series. What I don't like about the EHX 45000 is it's lack of quality vocal effects & processing. Unlike the RC-300, The RC-505 looks like a direct competitor to the Vocalist/FX touch based Loop Machines. Really excited about how this pushes the Live-Loop processes/genre. Indeed, potentially a VLT2 killer, but not so certain it's gonna be that easy.

Though I am very impressed with the capabilities of this new looper... I'll be putting my upgrade on hold until June, where I here the potential release date is, and spend the next few weeks carefully making my decision while enjoying my last few dances with the VLT. A pedal designed to interact/midi control with the VLT would be an interesting addition, especially if it had storage/recall capabilities built in for instant recall of pre-recorded phrases, loops and samples.

Hey VC,

Any idea when the VLT2 will be available in Guitar Centers in the U.S??? Been looking everywhere to try and get one... GC showed on their site that they had them available, but then removed it. Will we be seeing it this February??? March?

I own a Fishstick with my current setup including a Voicelive Touch to a Handsonic HPD-10, an IPAD for instruments/effects thru a SP-303. And it sounds AMAZING! Perfect setup for busking or the pop up gig anywhere. I've never had a problem with the harmonies as I never place it behind me. I use a pair of Sennheiser headphones a a monitor, and place the Fishman in the best set-up for the situation. The bag that comes with the Fishstick is great too as it has wheels for easy transport. Potential addition would be a separate mixer for additional sound sculpting capabilities live. I intend to use my Fishman for audio for Live Visual performances as well, linking a projector and IPAD to the Fishman for sound out. As far as I know, the Fishman is the perfect system and sounds great with the VLT coming out of it. So cleaN!! smile

Hi All,

Mike, you're definitely not an annoyance. All I can offer is my word that we're never trying to give anyone the run-around. There's no hidden agenda from TCH. We want our end users to feel supported and appreciated. Without you... I'd be living in a cardboard box in the middle of the road. (10 points for the reference)

Regarding posters on forums/internet, I guess "really happy or really unhappy" may have been less accurate than the way you put it: "the ones who care the most and have the passion..."

Something interesting about Touch and its relative lack of updates compared to something like VL2 is that the features we added to VL2 were already in Touch when it shipped, since Touch was developed after VL2. So, you'll see more updates to VL2 for the addition of the Looper etc.

Let me give you an update on what we're doing with Touch:

1. Fixed the looper not outputting via USB (fixed on VL2 as well)
2. Fixed the guitar level increasing/decreasing when Talk is pressed.
3. In progress on Aux level not recalling properly.
4. In progress on adding De-Essing control.
5. In progress on adding Delay Feedback control.

The new engineer is simultaneously learning all the ins and outs of the code, plus trying to make fixes along the way. His approach to things has been impressive so far and he's already pointed out ways we can optimize our process as we move forward, especially to make things easier to update.

There isn't ever an intent to leave anyone out in the cold, but I can sure see how it must feel that way when all I can give you is "We're working on it.".

So, with all that said, I'm going to work on a "Public Beta" style approach where I hope we can find some middle ground. If you're into it, we can send in-progress firmware to some folks here to help us test, once we've done an internal shakedown. I'll let you know when we have something. Should be within a couple of weeks, depending on any speedbumps we encounter adding features etc.

Not only would that get your issues sorted faster, it would provide us with a more robust test of real world situations that we simply can't replicate at the office.

It won't be something available to everyone, but something we'll discuss here and via private emails to vet users and make sure they're willing to provide useful feedback for us to apply to the beta firmware.

Thanks for sticking with it, despite the frustrations.

-Craig

P.S. Play+Play GTX vs. Touch

Obviously each generation of gear is something built from our past experiences and success/failure. We wanted to get a product out that was easier to edit, so Play and GTX have a simpler more intuitive menu system. The GTX integration of full guitar FX was a real boon for us, so we're pumped to see it move forward.

The Touch has much more robust looping features, more harmony voices, more I/O than Play (which has no Inst or MIDI).

Will I say that Play and GTX aren't a great value? Heck no. They are. But we feel like there's room for them to live with Touch in our lineup.

::slow clap::

Best thing i've heard from you guys regarding the Touch... This is very exciting news... and thru it all, it's good to know a company rep can speak to the people who are passionate about their crafts and their tools. Thanks alot Craig & TCH... This gives me better perspective as to where the Touch, Voicelive, Play & GTX all fit it in the spectrum of company growth. Look forward to the firmware upgrades, and the rest of what you guys have in store.

Godspeed!

I concur with all the above stated. Like my VLT a lot, but... wink can't wait to see TCH continue to refine it's current line (specifically the VLT). I'll ride this bus till the wheels fall off, but... wink Boss continues to make tempting offers, too bad I dropped all my cash for this decade on TCH & Roland. Plus, I'm seriously addicted to my VLT, and I've figured out a few work arounds to the mild issues I initially had, so my loyalty will stick with those who popped my looping cherry. They were so gentle...

I've got a Fishstick (Fishman SA220) for my setup and I love it. Sound is clear & great!!!

Hey VC community,

Any loopers out there? Was looking at the new release from Boss and was thinking. "Crap!" I'm super loyal once I go with a brand that I like. So based off the press release, how & what can be improved on newer loop/vocal effects units from TC Helicon? I'm really liking the storage of loops & overall recording time of the RC-300, but there's plenty more features too... Let's keep the fire of competition burning with the continuous evolution of looping devices. TC Helicon guys, hope you're taking notes and already 6 moves ahead of those Boss guys wink We'll be waiting... The Voicelive 2 needs more Looping Options or possibly a separate unit that takes the best of VLT, the Voicelive 2 & RC-300 and mutates them together into a mega loop unit wink Or a sleek fully featured unit... LOVIN MY VLTouch though smile Keep em coming guys, can't wait to see your answer to the RC-300 wink

Here's the official press release from Roland:

"Boss is pleased to introduce the RC-300 Loop Station, the new flagship model in its industry-leading lineup of real-time phrase loopers. Equipped with multitrack loop phrases, three hours of stereo recording time, built-in effects, enhanced real-time control options, USB, and much more, the RC-300 is a dream machine for the growing legions of instrumentalists and vocalists who incorporate live looping in their musical performances.

"The RC-300 replaces the popular RC-50, improving on its powerful predecessor in nearly every way. Like the RC-50, it's housed in an ultra-durable metal chassis that's built to last, and offers 99 different memory locations, each with three independent stereo or mono loop phrases.

"But, the RC-300 ups the ante big time with three hours of recording and loop storage: more than seven times the amount available in the RC-50. The RC-300 also provides newly enhanced options for controlling loop phrases, including dedicated rec/dub/play and stop footswitches for each phrase, an all start/stop footswitch, and an expression pedal for real-time effects control.

"The RC-300's interface is simple to navigate, with a comprehensive display and many dedicated knobs, buttons, and status indicators. In addition, three faders provide for quick mixing of loop phrases.

"Onboard effects allow users to process their audio sources and loops with cool sounds such as slicer, filter, transpose, and many more. Effects are optimised for looping and can automatically sync to the tempo track. There's even a handy effect for getting a bass sound with a regular guitar, as well as a host of modern vocal effects.

"Users have an array of options for connecting various audio devices via the RC-300's well-stocked rear panel (click to view). Inputs include an XLR microphone jack with phantom power, mono or stereo instrument jacks, and an aux jack for hooking up an external music player or other stereo device.

"All the inputs can be used simultaneously, giving performers the ability to record loops instantly with any connected sound source. Stereo outputs include independent main and sub jacks, and a headphone jack for practice or stage monitoring.

"USB allows for connecting to a computer to import/export WAV loop phrases. MIDI I/O is included as well. Rounding out the rear panel are jacks for connecting optional Boss footswitches (up to four) and/or expression pedals (up to two), providing additional real-time control options for looping power users.

Hi VC community,

I just received my new VLT and have been playing with the menus and such for several hours. I'm unsure if there is an ON button, but when it shuts off I can't do anything for a few hours. I've tried unplugging and taking it to another plug & reconnecting, nothing seems to work. Any idea as to what the problem could be? I'm feeding two mics into it, one via a Zoom H4n interface connecting to an IPAD via 1/4 inch 1/8 splitters and into the AUX input on the VLT. Seems like a power issue to me, but unsure if it's the cables or the unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks ahead of time!!! big_smile
