PS What gear? What DAW? What OS?
I was trying to properly word a question about the inner workings of the VLT, and how it worked in requards to how it handled Mono\Stereo issues. And now I don't have to!
Thanx
Biff
The big reason why this would be nice is, during a real time creative moment, the gestaltedness (THE SUM OF THE PARTS ARE GREATER THAN THE WHOLE) would be conducive to creating a greater and/or different performance, from the auditory feedback of a glorious stereo Vocal and Guitar sound, from the VLT.
Then one could further enhance and/or mangle the awesome raw VLT takes in their DAW.
Of course one can attain this quality by recording optimal sounds separately, but, without the above mentioned, same real time, creative feedback loop.
Still, I Love this thang!!!
Hope this makes sense.

Is there a way to get duel, separate, stereo outputs?
(ie. with a tip. ring, sleeve stereo cable) OR should we forget about having dual, lush, stereo, panning and other types of stereo effects, and, a stereo effected guitar at the same time?
And/or, more importantly to me, and many others I'm sure, using the VLT in the track mode with a DAW (Logic) via USB?
Can we have a lush stereo chorus on the guitar and stereo Pingponging type effects and other types of stereo effects on the vocals and at the same time?
Biff
Oh yea, ya can do all that stuff, but, with the VLT, used as an insert in the channel insert slot, using an I/O insert, there's NO noticeable latency.
I think once a correct send/rtrn method has been figured out, there will be very little latency with a buss set up, if how little latency there is when it's used as an insert is any indication.
I wanted to get it to a point where I can make music with it in a basic way and workup an optimal VLT set up as I go.
I will keep you all up to date with my failures and successes.
Riff
Well if you use the VLT as an insert, using an I/O plugin, It works well.
Clean and no 100+ms latency, slap back, delay!
One must do all the mixing of dry the vocal, harmony, and effects, in the
very clean VLT.
For me, its ok that I can't get it to function as a send/return, without
major latency.
This method is super easy, sounds good, and there's no complex
aux's n buss's.
The VLT guitar effects are not used. I just use Logic's insert effects on guitar.
I Hope this gives some help to the other people that want to use the VLT as a post
recording, harmony generator.

I had a bug girrr with it for days.
your welcome (what if I was a girl) Matt
Once your in the "setup" menu, hold the ^ UP Arrow UNTIL!!!!!(That's the trick) you see the other main menu's - "MIDI" menu and, the "Advanced" menu pops up. Once you get that, the VLT is your oyster.
Gettin there.
Aggregate interfaces:
Fire box has 6 inputs = 1-6, 8 outputs = 1-8. VLT has 2 inputs = 7-8, 2 outputs = 9-10. Firebox is first in the chain, with the clock button checked and the VLT is second with the re-sample button checked. So a total aggregate of 8 ins and 10 outs. Seems to work.
In logic, in my vocal track, I usually have 2 snd/rtrns set up.(#1 Verb and #2 Delay)
I added a 3rd Buss and added a stereo I/O insert with the input set to 7-8(VLT IN) and the output set to 9-10(VLT OUT) to the insert in the Aux/buss.
Now the problem seems to be that I can hear everything, but, with an approx 70ms-110ms latency, slap back.
Horrid!!!
I can't really tell if it's in stereo, but, one thing at a time.
So the aggregate works after a fashion or maybe it works fine.
I'm wondering if the latency is due to the Logic's I/O plugin?
If your using the USB only as the I/O, I would think that the I/O plugin should not be needed. I'm guessing.
Any thoughts Craig or any Logic user?
RBiff
sort of got it to work with the aggregate but it only plays the harmony's (with much latency) and no verb delay etc. hmmmmm
If one goes the analog, sans USB, send/return route, with the VLT, since the only "IN" is a female XLR input for vocals, wouldn't one need a 1/4" (Bal or Un?) to a male XLR cable?, if one's Firebox has only 1/4" line outs and the VLT only XLR (or USB) Ins? This would be for Vocals only and it would be nice if the effects were in stereo.
So one would send a dry vocal out from logic, and send it out of 1 of the 4 available TRS line outs, from the Firebox via a TRS 1/4" to male XLR cable, to the VLT's XLR input and then take the stereo outputs of the VLT and hook them into the inputs of the Firebox?-----Right?
To process the guitar, I assume, would be about the same, only using all 1/4" cable.(TRS or unbalanced 1/4"?)
I'm pretty sure there are other ways. The more the better.
Oh- Just sort of throwing this out there but would soundflower or other similar apps. be useful here?
P.S.- Back to the AGGREGATE!
Right! One can't use the VLT, only, for I/O, and to act as a send/return @ the same time!
One needs an other interface (FireBox) device to act as monitor out to the physical monitors, because one cannot use the VLT analog Outputs for monitoring and have the USB, in Insert mode, at the same time I think. In USB Insert mode, do the analog stereo outs, still work? OR Are they switched off because the USB ties up the I/O's?
Hey!!!!!!!! V.C.Member MAUNAKEA. Whhhhhere aaaarrrrrreeee Youuuuuuuuuuu!!!!
In the post you recommended, he mentioned that he had sorted out the LOGIC/VLT
thang.
I hope he is still user.
I'm going to try and use just the VLT as an interface and take both the Firebox and the aggregated out of the equation, until,
I get the VLT humming in the Stereo, Track and Insert modes.
Thanx again

I't seems that the Logic Pro/VoiceLive products, USB I/O send\return, "Secret Holly Grail" is a reoccurring theme in the forum. And, since no one in Victoria (Beautiful city) seems to have had any experience with these new fangled Imac things or this Logic pro thingy, I must look to finding an all seeing android shaman.
If only the secret hand shake could be revealed on oh say The History Channel.
Putting my head back into the digital streeem---Searching........
Az it gaaht whon? (Say it with a Monty Python Accent) Eet don't looo lyye eet!
Setting up the aggregate was no problem. The problem, as the author of the VL-2 post said, seems to be in figuring out where the various I/O's are. Since I have a Digital USB hook up, I don't really want to go back to standard cables and creating External I\O's in Logic, which, I'm sure you understand. (just keepin it clean)
If there is a fellow Logic user out there, that has achieved the USB as I\O Holly
Grail.-(To use the VLT as an outboard effects device) to add harmonies and effects to a dry vocal-Would you kindly supply the community with a point by point description and/or video of how you did it?
Thankyou Craig. Any more info on this or if someone @ the office or if any of your contacts have Logic I\O and VLT experience that would help this community, don't hesitate to pass it along
Thanx

I'd swear over my IVL Pitchrider 7000 from Heinl Electronics that I just can't get
this.
I've read the VL2 manual and watched the vids for the VLT, VL2 and VL rack. I will
read the VLR manual and see if that helps.
Mean while, if any one could help us with a step by step, for dummies, tutorial
and/or video that would help me and other upcoming TC Helicon/Logic users that would
be greatly appreciated.
Thank yea

With an Imac, using Logic, how does one, step by step, set up and use, the VLT using the USB only, in the "Insert" Mode?
(Pg. 16 in the manual)
Please. This is the last major piece of the puzzle for me and I'm sure that many other Logic users would
appreciate a step by step explaination and/ or make a quicky video on setting up and using Logic and say 6-8 other main popular
DAW's.
Simply - How do you step by step use Usb Insert as a insert and or send/ return type of effect in Logic?
This type of info would also be usefull to owners of your other products, that are cabable of the same USB utility as the
VLT.
Thanx TCH

mine did a countdown from 16-0 @ about 1 second intervals.??????????

I mostly love it. I don't play live, but, in the studio it's mostly good.
I hope that the wondering output( the #'s sometimes move by themselves with NO incoming midi control signals) level's drops and boosts problem is fixed in the upcoming software updates.
The only thing that I can't figure out yet, is how to set it up as a send return using the USB in the insert mode for Logic Express. I'm eager to see how well it works in post production. Once I figure that out I can give you a more complete opinion.
Also-This site IS the go to site for problems so one would find more complaints.BUT!
I can feel for those that have to stop and reboot in front of an audience.

Hello. This is my first post.
I've had my VLT for just over a month and overall love it and understand it . Other than having the main output
volume numbers drift and/or quickly go up or down. (yes I did make sure there were no midi control or other errant midi messages)
I'm hopping that the next update will fix this wandering parameter thing.
As a USB I/O, It seems to work and sound almost as good as my Firewire Presonus Firebox. I like the VLT's Preamp with the 9 tone styles.
I have experimented with using the preamp and sometimes use some of the post processing (Like doubling) to create a good sound, to
put a good, raw vocal sound to tape; with an eye to further processing (Harmonies, Reverb, Delay FX etc) with the
VLT in the USB Insert Mode in post production.
I've connected the VLT with a cable to the Firebox and it has sounded fine.
I've also used it as a USB I/O and as far as putting down tracks it has been fine.
My Question is=====In insert mode, how do we set it up in logic to use it? Do I need to use it in an effects send return manner in Logic?
Or using Logic terms, do we put it in as an insert in an instrument mixer channel, so one only uses it on one vocal using the USB?
I know I can create an external instrument in Logic and can put it in insert and/or send return, but I'm not sure if one can do this via USB. I know it can be done with cables but I'd rather keep things in the digital domain (USB)
Has any one used the VLT with Logic in the insert mode? (6. USB Stereo Track INSERT)
In "Track" mode, are the preamps 9 "Tone Styles" recorded to "tape"? or is it totally dry?
For Input, would vocals be on Input 1 and on its own separate input 1 channel? and is the guitar on input 2 input channel 2?
How should it show in Logic?
Thanx in advance and it's nice to be here.
