Topic: VoiceLive Vs. Voicetone Create and/or Correct

Damn, I'm going to buy VoiceLive this week 'cause I need a good pedal for gigs/bandpractice/recording!

My budjet is limited and I got a proper offer for VoiceLive, however now I started having second thoughts 'cause of these new upcoming machines from TC-Helicon (Create/Correct)!? Witch one should I buy?? Why? Why not? How about the VoiceWorksPlus then? Doesn't voice live have all the effects of these two?  Should I buy both of the new ones or voicelive and so on..

Please hurry with your answer 'cause the guy is bringing it to me this saturday, thanks

Re: VoiceLive Vs. Voicetone Create and/or Correct

Okay, here is a breakdown.

First off, do you want harmonies? Because if you do, you need the voicelive or voiceworks. The pedals do not have harmonies. If you do want harmonies, then do you want to control them yourself or will your engineer do it. If it is you, then you need the voicelive because the voiceworks can just me rackmount at the board. I use the Voicelive and actually do a lot of Zeppelin so I set up an ocatve higher or lower ocatve harmony to add another dimesnion to my voice.

Personally I love my voicelive, but I am a kid so I had to have the pedals too. The pedals are basically the coolest thing to come along for singers in a long time. Just like guitar pedals, which I use to sing through as a kid. If you are on a budget and only need a few things to get started, the Voicetone create gives you all the effects, plus some infelcetions like telephone voice, grit, thickening... If you are more worried about the spectral sound, the Correct pedal gives you EQ, compressions, de-essing... The pedals go for $345 and the other processors are twice that price. So, in the end, it is really about what you need right now, versus your budget. For a quick fix I'd get the Create if it were me and buy the Correct soon after. But if I were a person who wanted harmonies, go for the Voicelive. However, I wouldnt't put it past TC to cre4ate a ahrmony pedal soon, which means you could add that to your growing voice pedal obsession wink

Re: VoiceLive Vs. Voicetone Create and/or Correct

Hi There!

Having worked with VoiceLive for a couple of years now, I would consider myself a power user, but I feel that this machine is a little too complicated in live situations (as long as you aren't a singing
guitarist). As a lead singer you have to concentrate on your performance and don't want to continuously step around on footswitches (although that could look like an interesting dancing style...). This, in addition to the hundreds of complex parameters, is what from my opinion, turned the usability down for anyone without a sound engineer diploma. In all the years(!) of excessive programming and re-programming, I have never been 100% satisfied with my sound. Okay, I've got to admit, that I have been the only(!) singer in a funk/soul/disco band where, besides our own songs, we covered all the 70's classics. I can tell you, it's hard work to program only a single song with all those complicated jazzy, funky harmonies, but on the other hand, "Earth Wind & Fire" out of the Box sounds quite impressive... big_smile

Well, my latest project is a Jamiroquai tribute show (Man, I feel lost among all those rockers here wink), and so I got myself a pair of "real" backing singers. I've been selling my VoiceLive again and only a few days ago got hands on my new VoiceTone pedals. Wow! With all its adaptive routines, "Correct" really gives me the comfort, I was missing from VoiceLive. Simply reduced to the max, very good! "Create" on the other hand features all the sounds you know from modern or classical recordings. It has a much wider variety of effects, compared to VoiceLive and only a few tweaking possibilities, but for me that is more than enough. Nevertheless, I am eager to get to know the "Super Edit Mode", TC has announced for the end of august.

Want to know more about my experiences with VoiceLive and VoiceTone? Just contact me.

Re: VoiceLive Vs. Voicetone Create and/or Correct

I have to admit that the voicelive feels quite complicated to handle, and I've just realized that I don't need the harmonies that much eather.. But thanks for the info, I'll be sure to contact you for some advice later.

Re: VoiceLive Vs. Voicetone Create and/or Correct

Where can I find a link to this "Super Edit Mode?"

Re: VoiceLive Vs. Voicetone Create and/or Correct

Jadasinga, don't feel out of place. So glad to have you on here. I love funk and love the bands you mentioned wink I love the Voicelive but the only way I use harmonies is for an octave doubler because I am too invlolved in performance. I am actually using it for a Zeppelin gig I am doing and using the pedals for an acoustic harmony duo with my guitar player. All in all, I am just a guys who loves digital toys, so I had to have them both wink

Re: VoiceLive Vs. Voicetone Create and/or Correct

Could someone e-mail me good VoiceLive presets for Rock/Metal singing like Skid Row, Judas Priest, Steelheart ect. No harmonies needed, accept for doubling maybe. My address --> kolly@webinfo.fi. For example like the ones that Jaime played with Jonathan Spencer singing Dream Theater.. Something like that.

THanks,

K

Re: VoiceLive Vs. Voicetone Create and/or Correct

No but I am sure I'll eventually get around to creating that preset. All ya need is to get the sheet music and figure out what key the song is in. It's been awhile since I played it but I believe it's based out of G. So figure out which part you are going to sing, toy around with the other harmonies to see if they are thrids or fifths/high or low, and adjust each harmonie accordingly.

Re: VoiceLive Vs. Voicetone Create and/or Correct

I appreciate Jaime's continued strong support of VoiceLive.  I have had one now for about two years and it has served me well... if you go to my web site, www.thevocaliststudio.com and check out 'vocal gear', then 'processors' you can get all the preset downloads for VoiceLive which will get you off to a strong start as well as a link to TC-Helicon's video tutorials on VoiceLive... very well done.  VoiceLive sounds amazing, if you can learn to use it, its great.  Or you can find all the presets on THIS web site... each instructors that did the templates have posted a blog offering the preset templates as download files... we will also run a full campaign on them.  However...

Its complicated to learn. (If you want amazing harmonies, then you want VoiceLive... if harmonies are not important to you... read on...).

I do reccomend the new VoiceTone pedals over VoiceLive, they are; up to 10 sounds, MUCH more intuitive to use and get working quickly, you get compression (with the "correct" pedal) and they are smaller and more affordable.  Since the algorythms all come from the same DSP/company, the quality of the efx are the same as VoiceLive.  You will also find VoiceTone informaiton on my web site at the same place... or go to www.voicetonepedals.com.  TCH has created a really killer page with video demonstrations and audio demonstrations on VoiceTone here...

VoiceLive is like an old trusted friend... the pioneer, but both VoiceTone pedals together represent the perfect pedal system for singers ever developed.

I apologize for product pitching on the forum, we are discouraged from doing that, but frankly, VoiceTone is the answer to so many singers fantasies for a pedal system... Im excited about them, I hope TCH will forgive me.

Re: VoiceLive Vs. Voicetone Create and/or Correct

I have had the VL almost since it came out and I have to say that I love it!

But I am a fiddler and like to have control over my sound, particularly given that much of my early amateur and professional life was in clubs with no soundman. Some nasty experiences in clubs WITH soundmen have not helped! Yes, the VL is very complicated, you don't quite need a diploma in sound engineering (nice one, Jay!) but almost. And it does have one big disadvantage; you don't get distortion, which you do with Create. On the other hand, the new Harmony Control pedal, which looks like an incredibly powerful tool, can't be used with Create or Control. But, as others have said here, if you don't want harmonies, who cares?!

I don't have either of these pedals, but I am very interested in getting Create, which seems to be much closer to what I need for one of my projects. But I'm keeping my VL for all the other projects, and my next purchase will be the HG Control.

By the way, I am a singer only, and unlike Jay, I have no problems whatsoever dancing on the pedals. I have the editor for the VL and my three set lists are stored there and recalled to the pedal as I need them. So Dancing can actually be kept to a minimum wtih a little sideways thinking. But there again, my bands don't have so much need of a highly visual frontman like Jay's; in my case it's enough that I leap around a little in the guitar solos!

That's Bass as in ass, not ace, by the way!

Re: VoiceLive Vs. Voicetone Create and/or Correct

Nice lidbass... why dont you post something about your VL settings... which ones do you like or use?  How do you use the editor?

Re: VoiceLive Vs. Voicetone Create and/or Correct

I don't use any of the settings in the VoiceLive. I re-programmed everything from scratch. I currently sing in three bands; an RHCP tribute, a techno covers band (doing things like Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Fat Boy Slim etc) and a general covers band (songs ranging from Tainted Love to The Beautiful People). So as you can see, my needs are varied! And to my joy the VL covers all of them and more, in fact after two years I STILL feel like I haven't explored everything on this pedal yet!

As for the Editor, I basically use it to store the three set lists I need. One 'limitation' of the VL is that it doesn't have enough presets to cover all my set lists! I can also change the set lists on my computer as required, then download them straight to the VL. Very useful when the guitarist decides to change everything round! But I have also used it to tweak presets, for example I tried to work out the harmonies for Californication at home using the editor.

I should make it clear that when playing live, I progam a preset for every song in the order on the set list, then scroll through them one after the other, in Preset mode. I did try to do the same with Song mode, but it has the (in this case) disadvantage that the preset NAMES aren't shown, and I don't have enough memory to remember all the preset numbers!

If you really want, I can post some of my settings over on the VoiceLive part of the forum. My apologies for invading the Create/Correct discussion!
