Topic: problems getting good level (volume) in recording

I have ALL my levels (on my USB interface, on the track and the master) ALL the way up and I am still not getting a very good level. It shouldn't be this quiet. I am going right into my M-Audio USB interface which is connected to my Macbook and I am using garageband. I know it's not a problem with any of those because when I just connect my regular condenser mic via the same process, it's plenty loud enough. Do I need some kind of mixer first to boost the initial volume? I just don't know.
Thanks
Doug

Re: problems getting good level (volume) in recording

Hiya Doug,

Here's an answer I posted to another user who was having the same issue. It covers both the digital output and comments on the analog output also.  ?

Are you using the VoiceLive 2? If so...

The digital level being low was a software error that is corrected in the coming software release. Analog output level is a complex one because VoiceLive 2 needs an incredible amount of headroom. Adding up to 12 voices of harmony and flanging in a live situation can get this out of hand. That being said, we expect there will be a new mode under setup that gives more analog output level ideal for a recording setting, where there is more time to set levels optimally for headroom. However, in live uses, many singers will likely appreciate having the current headroom. Beta is on it's way shortly.

Best wishes,

Joey

Re: problems getting good level (volume) in recording

Hi I recently acquired a Voicelive 2 which is Version 1.1 and I am also getting a low volume level when trying to record vocals on Garageband. Is this the same issue, and what version of Voicelive software should I be on now?  Will that resolve this issue (I bought the voicelive for recording vocals on my computer!)

I tried inserting the accompanying VoiceSupport disc, but I couldn't get the Voicelive recognised despite disconnecting and rebooting etc. Any advice on that one?

Thanks.

Re: problems getting good level (volume) in recording

Hi Stuartmacrae,

The newest version of VoiceSupport can be found here:

http://www.tc-helicon.com/products/voicesupport/

I'd start by installing that version and then updating your VL2 to the latest (1.4) firmware. Let me know if that works for you. The firmware should help the output level issue you're having.

Cheers,
Craig
