Topic: e935 or e865 For Female Vocalist With Softer Voice

My wife is looking for a new Microphone. She sings a mix of music, from Ballads to Classic Rock to modern Pop and Rock.

She has a softer thinner voice and has always had to be turned up a good notch or two more than the males in bands.

She tried a few Mic’s out today, the Shure SM58, Beta 58A, Beta 87A, Audix 0M5 and the Sennheiser 935.

Her favorite was the e935.  She thought the Shure Mics were a bit to harsh sounding for her voice. The salesman who helped us agreed that the e935 sounded more natural with her voice.

After doing some research online, I came across the Sennheiser 865 condenser mic and I read that this Mic was co-designed By Sting.

So now she has greater interest in the e865 now over the e935, but we can’t find one to try locally.

We play small to medium clubs, private parties etc, at moderate volumes.

Which Mic would work better for her in the band, the e935 or the e865?

Thanks for taking the time to read through this.

Re: e935 or e865 For Female Vocalist With Softer Voice

In my band, we used a Sennheiser 7xx (can't remember the exact last 2 numbers) for a few gigs and some practices. We called it the "feedbackheiser" because- well, I think it should be obvious. I preferred it to the SM58, and it was equally rugged, however, it was no comparison to the EV nd/767 or the AKG D5 I later owned. I preferred those two mics to the Shure Beta's because they sounded as good, if not better (the EV did) and were quite less expensive. I don't know how the Sennheiser 935 sounds, but I'm not interested. I would recommend you have your wife give these two a try.
