Topic: Layne Staley

I've been lisening to Alice In Chains and have really began to appricate his vocals. I've never sang in my life and would like to sing in this style. I can't afford a vocal coach, but I am willing to put forth the effort needed to achive this. What can I do? And can anyone do this? Thanks!
Peace.

Re: Layne Staley

good choice dude! layne was one of the all time great grunge rock vocalists so if uve never sung you may have your work cut out. First step is type "Brett Manning" into youtube and watch all his videos on warming up and about the anatomy of the voice so you know what your dealing with.

Then to get that layne staley grit, check out on youtube "jamie vendera discusses vocal grit".

To learn range you need to learn some vocal scales which are also available...on youtube!

Singing Success by brett manning is expensive but well worth the money if you are taking this seriosuly, otherwise for £15 you can get Raise your Voice by Jamie Vendera which is a cheap way to get you well on the right track, good luck bro.

Yeah! I love Alice in Chain too! I think 'Man in the Box' is awesome! Solid voice on the shouting part!

I want to learn to sing like that man! Yeah!

Re: Layne Staley

If you have a love for singing like Alice in Chains or any other favorite artist, I would suggest listening intently to the subtle nuances of their voice and just begin to copy them. After some time it will become second nature. I did that with John Mayer and now people say I sound very much like him. It's just because I've listened so much and sung along. Hope this helps.
