Topic: Forum signature links - unethical SEO?

The search engines want to provide the users with the most relevant search results. As of what I have learned internal and external linking to my website is important factors to improve SERP and PR.

Google has informed that every attempt to manipulate SERP or PR is not legal and from my point of view this puts link building through signature fields into a greyzone or perhaps also in a direct non-ethical / blackhat SEO process.

I am sure many of you disagree with me and I would like to start a discussion about this.

Is link building through forum signaturs ethical, in a greyzone or unethical?

As you can see from mine I have a signature linking to my site but I think I am being ethical in my signature because I am an experienced professional singer and can contribute valuable and on topic comments. Basically I think if people can make valuable contributions to a forum and they have a signature they are well within their rights. They are contributing valid info, they are contributing content for the forum owner and helping forum members. Everybody wins. It's obvious when a forum is being spammed because the comments reflect it and they have nothing to do with the topic, often just saying 'nice post, I'll be sure to visit'. Then I believe it's unethical.

I too have an ethical signature promoting the famous Swedish band Versant. As long as the signature links are ethical, it is a welcome option given by all the forums.

If it is unethical than why most the forums keep this options?
I think it is not unethical if you take part real discussion and
keep some contribute then it's not unethical.

I think some abuse the privilege. If you are selling something in your signature then be a paid forum supporter because it's advertising
