Topic: VoiceWorks plus: Setup vs. Preset, and Preset selection

Hello,

First of all, thanks for making the VW+, I've been very happy with the results so far! Some things that puzzled me however:

1. Why are some settings stored globally in "Setup" although IMHO they make more sense at "User Preset" level? In practice, I have to change settings back and forth in "Setup", when it would be much easier to have them change automatically when selecting a certain "User Preset" (which you have to do anyway):

-- Input source (Analog or Digital): Depends on whether we are recording an unprocessed track from microphone (Analog mic), or whether we are re-recording an existing track (Digital). Not that big an issue, since recording and editing are done on different days, but still...

-- Input on/off (remove dry lead audio): When re-recording an existing track to add harmonies, you will not want to include the dry vocal. When re-recording to thicken the voice, obviously you do need the dry vocal. In one editing/re-recording session, this setting can change some twenty-ish times.

2. My other usability question is why the "Preset" knob needs to be pressed to select the "Preset", since this is a superfluous additional step in the workflow. Other studio gear I have instantly switches as soon as the patch name is on-screen.

Did I miss some settings, or are these issues that could possibly be addressed in future updates?

Thanks for your time and cheers,
Alessio

Hiya Alessio,

I will try and answer your questions / comments in the order you asked them:

-- Input source (Analog or Digital): Depends on whether we are recording an unprocessed track from microphone (Analog mic), or whether we are re-recording an existing track (Digital). Not that big an issue, since recording and editing are done on different days, but still...

Joey: I don’t know of any processors that change input source with presets. If you know of any please let us know!

-- Input on/off (remove dry lead audio): When re-recording an existing track to add harmonies, you will not want to include the dry vocal. When re-recording to thicken the voice, obviously you do need the dry vocal. In one editing/re-recording session, this setting can change some twenty-ish times

Joey:This can be edited in the preset and stored as a separate preset with Dry Voice off.

2. My other usability question is why the "Preset" knob needs to be pressed to select the "Preset", since this is a superfluous additional step in the workflow. Other studio gear I have instantly switches as soon as the patch name is on-screen.

Joey: This is quite common in processors. The goal of this is to allow browsing before committing to the preset for smoother changes.

Best wishes,

Joey

Hello Joey,

Thank you for replying!

You got me on that one. Guess I'm spoiled by my RME Multiface which does just that, but then again it doesn't have many other features besides inputs and outputs!

Can't believe I missed this one! Screen 0V/Dry voice level. Thanks for pointing it out!

Well, I guess that's fair enough for use under live conditions, even if a bit awkward in the studio.

Thanks for taking time to reply and cheers - if these are going to be all the issues I've ever had then the future looks promising indeed. Keep up the good work!
