Hiya Xcorfina,

Sorry to hear about your issue. The best thing to do is to get in touch with TC-Helicon's support team via www.tc-helicon.com/support.asp, they should be able to help you smile.

Do let me know you managed to get in touch so I know you're getting some help.

Best wishes,

I don't understand this

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

I have the same problem i.e. a blank blue screeen and I logged a call with support over 2 days ago but no technical response as yet.

Has anyone on the forum overcome this problem?

Thanks in advance

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

Here are some things you might want to try:

- Reset your VL2. Turn it off and disconnect the power. Wait 20 seconds (capacitors need time to empty) and reconnect the power and turn the unit on.

- To upload new firmware you need the VoiceSupport program. This can be downloaded (free) here . Try the newest version (1.3.x). Be carefull not to turn off or power down the VL2 when updating the firmware: the machine will reboot itself at the end of the process. This may take a while, but just wait for it.

(In order to update the firmware you need to connect the VL2 via USB to your computer. VoiseSupport will "see" the unit and can communicate with it)

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

Mike thanks for you response.

The problem is I cant log into VS as the VL2 upon powering up has a blue blank screen and I guess an empty ROM(?) and due to this, VS does not recognise the VL2 so I cant do n'owt with the VL2 *ie. use it or upgrade it) as it is basically dead.

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

I'm afraid you're unit is indeed dead for now. The only thing that you can do is to wait for Tech Support. Bummer.

Good luck with this issue and keep us posted.

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

I've heard from tech support and a reload via midi seems to be the answer however, I need to get a USB/MIDI i/f cable first.

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

That would imply that the VL2 can be booted via MIDI. That's an assuring thought!
This gizmo should be sufficient for you

Let us hear how you fare!

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

Hi Mike, My PC is now on the blink and I'm awaiting a repair/relacement (I must be jinxed)so will post when I get it back and try the VL2 fixes provided by support.

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

Mike, the midi file download did not work. At the end of the download the VL2 still had blue screen with the "home" led lit, so no change. I've informed support who now advise that I take it in for repair.

Disppointed that there seems no way for a customer to recover the VL2 from this type of event.

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

I have the same problem after updating my brand-new VL2 to Firmware 1.3.
This has trashed the excitement of getting a much hyped piece of kit. Very, very bad on TC Helicon's part. What do I tell those folks who are waiting for an exciting outcome ? The multiplication factor in word-of-mouth advertising is staggering.
....Do I have to say "Go Digitech" ??

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

Hiya Stratocaster561,

Really sorry to hear that there was no other way around this one. Really hoping you get your VoiceLive 2 back soon so you can start enjoying making some music.

Please let me know how it's going.

Best wishes,

Joey

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

Hi Joey, I'm, in the UK and my VL2 has been with Panic Music Services for nearly 2 weeks and I haven't heard anything from them despite requesting such.

They did confirm over when booking the unit in that the problem is likley to be a corrupt ROM

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

Just heard that my VL2 is being looked at today.

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

Hiya stratocaster561,

Sorry to hear that it's taking so long for your unit to get back to you. Thanks so much for letting me know and please keep me updated on your progress.

Best wishes,

Joey

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

Hello Joey.
You're not going to believe this. The new VL2 arrived today, with a Blue Screen only, out of the box. All I did was turn it on. What can I say ???
The serial No. is in the same range as the previous one, so ALL stock in Denmark must be opened & checked........

Sorely dissapointed sad

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

PS Joey. Of course, I cannot turn the USB on, because no screen readout.
I'm going to get a refund from Absolute Music.

How is TC Helicon going to handle this embarrassing situation ?

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

I AM SOOOOOoooooooo RELIEVED !! My VL2 (named Beauty) is WORKING.

I left Beauty on whilst I  went to put out the trash & play ball with my dog (No....I don't have Roadies.....yet   LOL)
Came back indoors, 45 mins later, turned Beauty of, back on & turned the 4 knobs on top, furiously. Walaaaaa ! She got readout on the Display !!

What I think the problem with the 1st one was, that I upgraded the Firmware within 10 mins of powering it on. Obviously the VL2 has to be powered on for a couple of hours, before upgrading. The internal components need time to charge, especially the Capacitors.

Anyways....I'm leaving Beauty powered on overnight & will only upgrade the firmware in the morning.

I take back the harsh words I said in previous posts.

Hiya Ceefcee,

Wow, you had me worried there for a minute!

Glad it all worked out ok. Please keep me in the loop and let me know how you go with the update and getting started with your VoiceLive 2.

Best wishes,

Joey

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

The VL2 firmware upgrade went just fine, on a hot machine !
Please get TC Helicon to include a warning message on all new VL2's.
Soething like -"only do firmware updrade after an hour of being powered on" !

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

My VL2 is back after repair and after parting with £77.

I am disappointed that if a firmware upgrade fails after the download corruptiong the ROM and that onwers have to fork out a wad to get it fixed, this cant be right?

For UK owners, I recommend Panic Music Services should your unit need repair.

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

Same problem.  How do you reset or boot it via midi?

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

I just received my brand new VL2 Extreme this week.  Plugged it and powered it on and was all excited to get started using it (I was also looking forward to selling my other vocal harmony product).

- Installed Voice Support
- Connected VL2 via USB cable
- Updated to latest firmware
- Firmware downloaded/transferred
- Waited for unit to restart (never happened)
- Went to work and waited all day (checked back 12 hours later)
- Front panel still frozen like it was during firmware transfer
- Manually powered off/on and was faced with the dreaded blank BLUE screen and HOME buttom lit
- Located the article on recovering via MIDI
- Installed MIDI-OX and purchase a USB to MIDI cable (at my expense)
- Connected to VL2 and transferred Sysex file (tried both versions)
- Neither sysex file I tried was able to recover the unit
- Still see the blank blue screen but the following buttons are now on solid (Shortcut, Preset Down, Step, uMod, Harmony, Delay, Double, Reverb, FX)
- Left a support call with TC-Helicon
- Guitar Center said they would replace at their expense if TC can't resolve

Note: Since I live so close to Victoria, I might try to contact some of the people I know over there.  They may know how to recover the unit or be able to send me a new EEPROM with the latest firmware (provided that doesn't void the warranty).

(keeping my fingers crossed).

Brad
Surrey, BC

P.S.  Does anyone at TC know if this is related to a bad batch?  Is there a serial number range that is known to be a problem (e.g. bad EEPROM chips)?  If so, please advise.

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

Hiya runkukah,

I'm really sorry to hear you're having these issues with your new unit.

Unfortunately, the best thing to do in these rare cases is either wait for support to get this sorted with you or alternatively (as you've only just recieved the product) have it replaced by your dealer.

Despite there being several posts on this thread I can confirm that the problem isn't widespread.

Did you contact support using the weblink? - here it is again incase you need it:

Best wishes,

Joey

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

Hi Joey,
I did submit a request via weblink and followed up with a call to the service dept this morning.

If this is unsuccessful I will contact GC to arrange for a swap.

Good to hear this isn't a widespread problem. However, an infrequent problem can also be a concern as the root cause is unknown which means we don't know when it could happen and to whom.

Thx
Brad

Re: have a problem!!!! blue screen only

RuhKuka, After the hassle I had, I would get it replaced FOC.

TC support got back to me this morning and confirmed the cause of the problem.  The VL2 Extreme has a different memory architecture than the regular VL2.  As such, the firmware upgrades won't work...and, in fact, will cause the problem I am having.  They advised that this identified a problem with Voice Support allowing VL2 Extreme users to install regular VL2 firmware updates.  They will fix this going forward.

As for my unit, the developers provided me a beta firmware update intended for the VL2 Extreme.  Unfortunately, this didn't work either.  I tried the recommend low level input/output buffer sizes of 256 with a buffer number of 16.  No luck.  Since this is a different memory architecture, I tried different buffer sizes that were multiples of 256 (512 and 1024).  Still no luck even with the buffer number cranked to 2048 (necessary to avoid buffer limit problems).

I am at the point now where I have to work with GC to replace the faulty unit and have a fresh one sent to me (all new Extreme units have the latest firmware).

This has been a fair amount of expense, time and aggravation.  Not to mention - having to drive to the States to pick it up, going through Canada customs, and paying both Washington and British Columbia taxes...OUCH!  Part of me feels that I should be up for some show of appreciation for "taking one for the team".  ;-)  The good news is we now know there is a bug in Voice Support and that there is a memory architecture difference between the VL2 and VL2 Extreme that affects firmware updates and can brick your new toy.

If someone is listening at TC... a t-shirt would be nice but...I dunno...I think I might make for a pretty thorough beta tester (hey TC, what do ya'all think?).  I could even consider taking on an endorsement deal if this all gets sorted out.  hehe ;-)

I'll keep ya'all posted on the repair results.  Thanks Joey for your prompt help in this matter and for providing support direction.  TC support at its finest.  :-)

Moral of the story: If you have a VL2 Extreme...DON'T update the firmware using the Voice Support software (check the version cuz chances are you will have the latest version).  TC will be updating Voice Support shortly (or the web service that provides the list of firmware updates).  That should hopefully address this issue for future Extreme customers.

Cheers,
Brad

P.S.  I was half serious about the beta tester idea...as I am a die-hard TC fan and previously owned an SCF pedal (still regret selling that one). I currently own a TC G-Major and TC G-Minor for my rack setup.  TC provided support for me long after the G-Major was out of support by shipping me the remainder of their stock for the front panel buttons (to replace about 6 damaged buttons).  Way to go, TC!
