Topic: Smoking

I am or was one of those heathens with the bad habit of smoking cigarettes. It's a horrible addiction and I tried so many ways to quit smoking. I know it's bad and I tried cold turkey, hypnosis, lazer therapy, the patch, gum, that anti depressant stuff... the pills were the worst, it messed with my brain.

recently a buddy showed me his e cig. it's a vapour unit with propilyn glycol, vegetable glycerin and nicotine. you add flavours or buy pre mixed stuff.

I got one 3 days ago after I found many of my friends in the remote control hobby have actually quit using one. I am a pack and a half a day smoker for what seems forever. my first day I had 7 smokes, second day 3 and now day 3 zero.

even in the short time and the amount I cut back I can allready feel my lungs are thanking me. I am mixing my own flavours and can cut back the nicotine. there's no smoke comes out but the vapour looks like smoke. it feels like I am smoking but the taste is much better. I also have a second setup with no nicotine to pacify my mental addiction for my hand to mouth.

this is the best thing I have ever found to kick this habit. I have no doubts in my mind I will ever want to smoke another cigarette. this is way healthier, doesn't stink or yellow up my stuff. even the girls don't mind me doing it in the house as they like the smells.

if you are a smoker and want to quit, I suggest you take a look at these things, just do your research and get a good one to start. it's like buying a mic... a realistic highball works but it's not a shure..

Re: Smoking

Just an update. 10 days smoke free and my voice is feeling so much better. I am about to give up this vaporizer thingy now. I've cut my nicotine levels in half allready and my consumption has dropped to about 1/3 of what I was using day 1. It's a horrible addiction. Even yesterday after I ate dinner I was fumbling through pockets and on the desk looking for my smokes. mental habit. I realized after a minute, oh ya... the physical addiction is gone.

Re: Smoking

Generally smokers are less healthy and less physically fit than non-smokers.They take more days off work through illness than non-smokers and are more prone to common illnesses such as colds or sore throats.

Re: Smoking

Day 22 without. I've beat this horrible addiction finally.

Re: Smoking

day 51, I have noticed such a change in my voice, as have the guys I jam with. it's been like second puberty finding my voice again... was a bit frustrating for a while but the cracking has finally seemed to subside. now I can actually start working on being a singer again.

I know this is a vocal forum and many of you can't understand this, but this addiction had a hold on me unlike any other. I've abused my body in many ways over the years but most of those stupid things long long ago... this one held on like none of those others. I tried everything, went to my doc a few times for help even. anyway... I just had to say something.

I've been willing to try much anything as of late. I have lots of work to get back to being able to do some but it doesn't seem so out of reach anymore to hit some of those note, ya know what I mean wink

Re: Smoking

Don't try to show socialized by using this habit.

SAY NO to this stupid habit.

SAY NO to the stupid force that wants you to snap a cigarette. Say no to stupid people who want you in this habit. Make yourself your best friend and stop relying on the "love" of other idiots !!!

Take care

Re: Smoking

Most people know that smoking can cause lung cancer but it can also cause many other cancers and illnesses. Cigarettes contain more than 4000 chemical compounds and at least 400 toxic substances. When you inhale, a cigarette burns at 700°C at the tip and around 60°C in the core. This heat breaks down the tobacco to produce various toxins. Avoid Smoking, because smoking takes a person near to death.

Re: Smoking

Hello guys!
Smoking is very harmful for health...For decades science has told us about the side effects of smoking when it comes to your health and about the diseases that smoking can cause. Aside from the health risks connected to smoking, you may experience other disadvantages; you may notice that your social life and family life are being affected as well. Consider carefully if your addiction to nicotine is worth all of the disadvantages to smoking.

Re: Smoking

Sunday was 8 months since my last cigarette. my vocal range has improved dramatically. I am now giving up the e cig. it's been my crutch/pacifier and did it's job. I have no craving for cigarettes. they stink to me now. hate being around them and haven't had a craving for a long time.

I've been singing lead vocals for a couple bands. say what you want, but these e cigs really were the most effective thing I ever tried and I quit. I've gotten a few friends now to quit smoking using this method. just do your research. ecf is a forum dedicated to these things. read up and don't buy a piece of crap unit or you won't get the desired results.

Re: Smoking

sold all my e cig stuff and bought a mandolin with the money. 11 days now, and played mandolin for about half our songs. I needed something to do with my hands so taught myself mandolin. helps I have fallen in love with the mando though. I wore out the original strings in 1 week lol

Re: Smoking

6 weeks no e cig. my voice feels strong and I have been singing some high stuff lately. I feel like back in my younger years. I am a non smoker finally. and I just ordered a new mandolin. turns out I really dig this instrument as well so a double luck scenario

Re: Smoking

Congrats Pip!

I've never been a smoker, but I can imagine how hard it is to quit. You'll definitely see a ton of benefits from it. Keep it up!

Re: Smoking

Cheers Craig
it's been the hardest thing to give up in all my life. I am not a young guy either

Re: Smoking

smoking is bad hobby, its injurious to our health....

Re: Smoking

I cant give you any comments because i am also smoker.

Re: Smoking

I'm trying the e-cig route too. I really like the flavor (sort of the nicest and sweetest tobacco flavor I've ever tasted) but haven't quite bonded with it yet. I ended up going with the V2 brand, red flavor, medium nicotine for starters. The unit seems well made and the smoking experience is quite realistic. Cheaper than analogs too but I guess there's an adaptation period for some (me).

I can't stand the thought that I ever even started this horrible habit and do hope I can quit asap.

Re: Smoking

BTW, it's truly one of the most powerful addictions out there. I used to drink (loved beer, bourbon) but just decided one day I was tired of the morning-after feeling and quit on the spot, not another drop for 10-15 years now. I've dropped other bad habits too with little stress or effort. But smoking is a whole different thing!

Re: Smoking

once you get the hang of things and find what works, it's easy. I still puff on mine but haven't had a cig now in 15 months. the mental cravings take a while to shake, just remember this will help your vocals so much. my range has improved quite drastically.

if you need any help or info check out ECF electronic cig forum. great support group

Re: Smoking

Yes, that seems to be a good forum and I have visited it before. I'm not a deep inhaler but I'm still finding the e-smoke to be just irritating enough to inhale without a cough reflex (similar to the first time cig smoking). I'm almost over that but I do have to be careful not to draw in too much vapor. Practice makes perfect I guess. Glad to hear it worked so well for you (and others). Gives me hope.

Re: Smoking

well it's a balance of pg and vg. pg gives that throat hit, vg the sweeter and thicker vapor. I vape straight pg but I used to smoke captain black cigars and inhaled them, or cohibas every christmas...

try a blend with more vg as a sample and see.
