Topic: Correct Term For Vocal Technique

Hi there, I'm looking to perfect a certain technique in singing but not sure what it's called. It's where you sing a note quickly up and/or down the scale.

A prime example would be Alicia Keys in her song "Fallin'" - at the very start after she sings the words "I keep on fallin'" she sings the word "in" with this technique. Boyz II Men also do this pretty much all the way through most of their songs - Water Runs Dry

The problem I'm having is I can't seem to properly replicate what they do. I'll hit some of the notes for sure but not all of them and it just ends up sounding terrible.

Would love to know what it's called so I can find out how to do it better.

Cheers,
Winger

Re: Correct Term For Vocal Technique

For anyone interested, the technique is called 'vocal runs' or just 'runs'.

Plenty of information out there now that I know what to look for smile

Hi Winger,

I found very useful to use scale patterns for jazz winds. there is a lot of variations compared to singing exercises.

good luck!
