Topic: tc helicon mp-75 vs shure 58a beta...

considering to get 1 of those mics...
anyone tried 1, or both of them out?
i haven´t tried either of them, but have heard recordings of the shure 58a beta and know that it sounds fantastic!

i´m going to use it with vl2 and i know that mp-75 has a switch that makes it a great addition to the vl2, but is it really as awesome sounding as the shure 58a beta?

Re: tc helicon mp-75 vs shure 58a beta...

I have a lot o microphones for various uses... (but I'm not suggesting to take them all.. it's only to introduce you my arguments...)

A clone of the Beta 58 (Superlux Pro 248)... that have been tested close to the original and sounds better than Shure (same sensation for all the peole that heard it...) ... paid only 40 € (1/4 than Shure one).

After some months I decided to pass to Electrovoice ND 767a, as I heard is one of the best for making rock. And it's true. It sounds fantastic in any situation.

Now singing with a group and making a strong use of custom presets with VL2, with shortcut assigned for every preset... as I found a good price for the MP-75, I took one. It sounds very close to the ElectroVoice, more extension than Shure and clearer sound.

So my actual ranking (between the ones I own) for dynamic microphones is:

1) Electrovoice ND 767a (for free use without VL2)
1) TC-Helicon MP 75 (for use with VL2)
3) Superlux Pro 248 = Shure Beta 58
4) AKG D5
5) Shure SM 58

That's my... opinion.. I hope could help you

But if you don't want to choose for the control on microphone (MP-75) but only for the microphne, consider too a new one Lampifire 111 that seems to be very innovative with a kind of DSP (compressor-limiter) integrated and programmable inside the microphone, very intersting microphone.

thx a lot for helping out:-)

i do have 2 good condenser mics (adk a51st and at4040), but i´m thinking about buying a dynamic mic, to have as an alternative!

i´ll check those mics on your list out:-)

I've tried them both, and I consider them both to be great professional mics. Both have similar specs, and during my experience the MP-75 exhibited a nearly exact pickup field.
I give an edge to the MP-75 for clarity without sibilance, and I give the edge to the Beta 58-A for low handling noise.
