Topic: just got my new MP-75 !

I cant believe this! It weighs like a brick in your hand and Im not sure if I like the button location . Probably has more to do with the weight or balance. This Mic out weighs by far compared to all my Mics , Audix wired and wireless , shure beta 58 . I read someones comparison on this site saying it sounded as good as the Shure beta 58. Let me clear this up( NO WAY! ) this thing sounds like mud. My comparison was done quite simply by using one channel and one mic cable and swapping mics back and forth. The mp 75 is not even close .
So I went on to compare my Audix mics , OM7 OM3 and OM2 . All three blow this thing away. The om2 was the closest to the Mp-75 but the OM2 still has more Bite. Not Happy.

Re: just got my new MP-75 !

Same here. It's OK, but not for my voice.
I compared it to SM58.
MP-75 sounds a little bit warmer (slightly more bass/less treble).
For my male voice I switched back to SM58 because I prefer a harder sound, but MP-75 could be a good mic for female voices.

Re: just got my new MP-75 !

The MP-75 mic does definately have it's own unique sound.

Its rejection properties are very good, and is a tight mic, it takes a bit of time to gets used to its sweet spot, and you can't deviate too far away from it before you loose your voice.

For loud performances with potential for lot of background bleed, it is a good mic.

But I do find that the output has to be tweeked at the mixing desk to get the sound you would from other mics.

Many times I say only 'yes' or 'no' to people. Even that is too much.

Hi Vince,

Using the MP-75 in conjunction with the Tone path in TC-H devices can really help get rid of the "mud". Give it a sec to apply the eq curve and you should hear a lot of the unwanted bottom drop away.

Re: just got my new MP-75 !

It's very strange...

I have  more than 10 mics (included Shure SM and Beta that I dropped to other karaokers...) and the only one I prefer to MP-75 is the Electro Voice ND/a 767.

Here some recordings of mine made with MP-75 and VL2 (used as a pre, I made the voices adding different takes)

http://snd.sc/xVL2Kl
http://snd.sc/vORKWC
http://snd.sc/s8ulfo

we can debate about the quality of my voice and technique, but I think we can't say the microphone is mud or closed and not brilliant.

About the weight... I don't like light microphones. I think the right weight have to be about 300 gr more or less. The only light microphones I've seen are chinese clones or 10$ mics. But.. that's my opinion.
I'm sorry if you could have choose your mic following my opinions written in some topics.

Re: just got my new MP-75 !

Is MP-75 is good or their are other suggestions!

Re: just got my new MP-75 !

I have MP 70 .. it sounds amazing with my Voice processor.

Re: just got my new MP-75 !

Yup - I am using a handful of MP-70's for stage use where I use to use Audix OM5's or OM7's - fantastic mics.   Much hotter output than an SM58!!

Re: just got my new MP-75 !

I have been in the music field for 35 years,
I own
2 Neuman -k105's
1 Shure beta87's
2 Shure beta58's
1 Shure SM58
1 Shure SM57
Shure Wireless slx system
with the capsules of Beta58, Beta87, and just added the KSM9 capsule.

Have been a lead singer and major giging for years.
I am very critical about my voice with mics and also others in group.
The TC Helicon MP-75 is simply an incredible new product.
It's a very warm mic, beautiful crisp sound, cuts through a mix nicely, not much to eq. simply amazing what TC Helicon did.
The comments about muddy, wow, what type of mixer are you using?
I do not work for TC Helicon.
These negative post are blowing my mind! This particular forum is sad! Is this for REAL?

Re: just got my new MP-75 !

Hi everyone,
Is MP-75 is good or bad, plz give me your suggestions!

Re: just got my new MP-75 !

johncarton, MP-75 is defintely a good mic in the league of Shure SM58 and Audix OM5 in my opinion. MP-75 has a nuance softer/warmer sound than the others mentioned here.
Everyone has a different taste according to his/her singing style.
Since you are from Berlin, why not order all 3 from Thomann for testing and send back the 2 you don't like.

Re: just got my new MP-75 !

Can anyone provide a direct comparison between the MP-70 or -75 and an OM7? Especially tonality, and rejection. I have an OM7 currently and am happy with it, but need a backup mic or a second for duets.
