Voicetone R1 reverb ISSUE!

I just bought this brand new pedal, but when I connect it between my microphone (shure beta 57a) and mixer the volume drops and the sound become full of middle frequencies.... and it is in bypass mode
I have to raise the gain of 40% and to totally redo the eq...

something is broken??
