Topic: No "Live" in VoiceLive Rack!

VoiceLive Rack sounds amazing! But, if you intend to use it live be aware there is no Momentary control of harmony or other parameters via footswith as in the Voiceworks Plus. It can only be controlled from the MP-75 mic (No thanks, I already have a favorite Shure wireless mic)or the Switch-3 controller which is not momentary. This means that you have to press the Switch-3 button to turn it on and press it again to turn it off. Try doing that while performing when only certain words or phrases are harmoninzed. It's like tap dancing but not to a beat. I purchased this rack and I am very disappointed because of this. The brilliant harmonies this machine creates are basically usesless to me because I can't control them as a Momentary function via footswitch like in the VW+. I have submitted this issue to TCH Support and posted this all over this forum but no one from TCH wants to address it. TCH somehow forgot to put the "Live" in VoiceLive Rack! I guess I will have to continue using the VW+ for all live harmony applications. Again, very disapponited!!!

Re: No "Live" in VoiceLive Rack!

Hi Mojo,

I appreciate that you're upset about not having momentary control over the harmonies, but it's counterproductive in a forum environment to spam the same post in multiple places. In the future, please restrict posts that cover the same topic to a single thread. Not only is it good etiquette, it helps the other users centralize any help/advice that they can give.

To address your question, there isn't capacity for momentary control via a footswitch on VoiceLive Rack.

Momentary control is a good idea and I've added it to the list of features to look at for future updates.

Cheers,
Craig

Re: No "Live" in VoiceLive Rack!

Sorry for the multiple posts, but I could not get anyone to respond through support or forum. Now that I know this capability is not possible, I can return this product before the trial period expires. I do believe that this is something that should be communicated to long time users of TC Helicon products such as myself. It has always been an option on similar TCH rack processors. I currently own five.

Re: No "Live" in VoiceLive Rack!

As a guitarist/keyboardist I'm surprised at this omission of momentary control of an effect such as harmonies. My own coordination isn't so great that while playing guitar and singing that I could toggle an effect at appropriate times.

I know TC Helicon probably wants to sell their own brand mic, but perhaps there would be a market for a footswitch adapter that emulates the switch of an MP-75 mic. However good sounding the MP-75 might be for some folks, it may not fit everyones vocals. An adapter at least would allow performers to use their favorite mic and still have control of the way they would like to use VoiceLive Rack. Something to throw to the R&D people for thought.

Re: No "Live" in VoiceLive Rack!

Hi guys,

Yep, like I said above, we totally agree that it's a good idea and I've chucked it into the feature development list for a future release. It shouldn't be too complicated to implement. I don't have an ETA at the moment, but we'll work on it.

The MP-75 is something we also push because of its extreme rejection. Often, users with more traditional mics run into "warbles" or "garbled voices" due to their mics allowing more of the stage sounds into their harmony and correction blocks, which triggers processing on the bleed. The MP-75 helps a lot with that situation. (you can set the gate threshold for harmony higher in the settings and that can help a lot too)

Anywhoo, just thought I'd give you a heads up that we're totally on board with making that change to the footswitch options.

Cheers,
Craig

Re: No "Live" in VoiceLive Rack!

Great news Craig! Please keep us updated as to the progress you guys make. Again this is an exceptional sounding processor. The momentary footswitch feature would make it truly complete.

Re: No "Live" in VoiceLive Rack!

Can on/off momentary control of the harmony function in VoiceLive Rack be accomplished thru MIDI command? Through research I have found a product manufactured by MIDI Solutions called the "Footswitch Controller" which is a programmable inline interface that allows a 1/4" footswitch cable to be plugged into it and translates the actions of the footswitch into MIDI commands. MIDI Solutions has a website with a great deal of information about this product and offers free downloadable programming software. I am considering experimenting with this product but would like to know if the VoiceLive Rack software is capable of performing this fuction via MIDI command. I am hoping one of the guys from TCH can advise me on this.

Thanks,

Mojo

Re: No "Live" in VoiceLive Rack!

Hi mojo,

I think that you could probably set up the Footswitch Controller to send an On command on press and an Off command on release, which would emulate a momentary switch.

Re: No "Live" in VoiceLive Rack!

Thanks for the reply Craig, That is what I am trying to accomplish. If I decide to go that route I will be sure to post my findings. If successfull, think it would make a great peice of gear better!

Re: No "Live" in VoiceLive Rack!

Craig,

After trying the MS Footswitch Controller, I still can't get the Harmony effect to turn on and off monentarily. In fact it does not respond at all to the Control Change Message being sent. MIDI Channel set to 1 on VLRack and FS Controller, CC# set to 110, On Value set to 127, Off Value set to 0. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: No "Live" in VoiceLive Rack!

I am in the market to upgrade my VoicePrism Plus and was looking at the VLR.

I am also a tad disappointed that this feature was "left out". I do have the 3 button floor switch that I use on my VoicePrism Plus. I guess I would be more interested in a MIDI solution since I plan on using a floor MIDI controller (FCB1010) that also works on my guitar effects. The Voice Live Extreme is on my short list but I really didn't want another piece of gear under my feet. and I already have the rack space.

Has anyone been successful in getting a "momentary" MIDI message to the VLR to simulate this yet?

Thanks

Nevermind..I caught the other thread that states that it does work
