Topic: Microphone with best noise rejection?

I am not a vocalist but was hoping that you could advise me.  I am looking for the best possible microphone for speech recognition (speech to text) in the $300 or less range.

According to most speech recognition experts, the industry standard is the Sennheiser MD 431 II, but that microphone costs $450, which is more than I want to spend.  Another commonly recommended microphone is the Audix OM2s, but supposedly that microphone doesn't reject noise like the Sennheiser.

I am doing speech recognition to do work-related notes in the same room as my kids play (they are 7 and 8 year old buys who talk *very* loudly, so I am looking for a micro phone that will pick up my speech clearly while rejecting the noise coming from the kids.

I appreciate your expertise and help!

Re: Microphone with best noise rejection?

Hi Amin,

The MP-70 mic we make is specifically designed for high rejection, since it has to avoid picking up room noise which can make strange things happen in our harmony processors. It's definitely worth looking at, if you're after a handheld mic.

Another option would be to look into a headset. There are tons on the market and some of them do quite well at rejection. You might have luck asking users of something like Dragon Naturally Speaking, who need high rejection headsets for speech recognition.

No matter what the mic and it's properties, nothing beats simply removing the source of the noise from your area.

Cheers,
Craig
