Topic: Running VLT parallel with mixing board

Hi all,
I would like to try running my VLT parallel with a mixer.  Which AUX out of my mixer do I use(pre or post) and where do I connect it to the VLT(I don't see a line in jack on the device like the Voicelive 2)?  If I don't have a AUX return on mixer, do I use a stereo channel?  Does anybody out there run this way and have any step by step advice for me, I would be most appreciative?

Thanks,
Mike

Re: Running VLT parallel with mixing board

Hi Mike,

I am assuming that this is for the mic's.

I would suggest sending the mic to the aux channel on mixer, then connect the mixer aux to the mic input of VLT, make sure you turn the VLT Mic GAIN knob all the way off, as you will be feeding a line signal to VLT, so no gain is required on VLT.

Make sure you mute the mic channel from the main mix on the mixer.

You would now increase the 'volume' on the aux channel on mixer until you have a good level going into vlt ie green signal light comes on.

You would then connect the output of the VLT to a stereo channel of the mixer, which you can then adjust the volume of to suit the mix of the rest of the equipment.

I would not try sending multiple mic's to the VLT, as it will have a major job trying to apply any tone, pitch, or harmonies, to a mix of multiple voice.

Many times I say only 'yes' or 'no' to people. Even that is too much.

Thanks Shox, I will defiantly try your suggestion out for one mic connected to the mixer channels preamp and setting up the VLT to run parallel via the AUX send and stereo channel return.  That is if I ever get my replacement VLT before I forget your advice LOL.

Thanks again,
Mike

Re: Running VLT parallel with mixing board

Hi Mike,

The important part, is setting the mic gain on the VLT off.

Hi...

I was thinking of running parallel to my mixer/amp as well, so my question is, Would I use the Mic XLR output or the two 1/4 TRS outputs?  Or would either of them work?

Just recieved my vlt 2 days ago..and am very excited, especially with the hard-tune and harmony features.

Thanks in Advance!

Re: Running VLT parallel with mixing board

Hi Talondood,

You could use the mono XLR out, but to get the benefit of panned effects that the VLT has, using the stereo outputs would be better.

Make sue you set the VLT output up accordingly in the setup menu, stereo for stereo or mono for mono, (nb duel mono sends voice to one output and guitar to other)

Best of luck.

Thanks for the quick reply shox!

Looks like I'll be using the stereo outputs then.

Much appreciated!

Re: Running VLT parallel with mixing board

I'm just looking and needing a 1/4" plug from the board into an xlr on the vlt seems tricky. I have high impedance mic chords from xlr to 1/4" but these are backwards since it has a male connector to go into the back of the mic. the vlt needs a female connector..

so seems I need to buy a special cable or change boards to have an xlr out on the aux...

would like to use an aux so the vlt can be assigned to different mics, depending on the song we do.

ok just found this. that'll work

Re: Running VLT parallel with mixing board

well I hit l and m today and got the adapter above and also this one http://www.long-mcquade.com/products/53 … Female.htm

I decided to get both since my vlt is at the rehearsal place and I couldn't test fit. should be interesting this weekend being able to add a harmoney to any of the mics... if I can get a video or recording done I will.

Re: Running VLT parallel with mixing board

Just an update. the first adapter was perfect http://www.long-mcquade.com/products/53 … oupler.htm ... it plugs in without hitting the casing (sometimes cables/wires are a tight fit as most of you can attest). this fits right in.

I had a bit of a time finding the global lead mute. we used the monitor out on the board so we had individual sends, then ran a mic cable back into an open channel. remember not to send the monitor send to the harmonizer or feedback loop... now we have control over who's voice is using the harmony, and a slider to control volume. the bass player runs the board and I have the unit and footswitch with me. I play keys and rythm mostly so I feed the chords for the harmonies.

we need to get a new mixing board now though with more sends as we lost our monitor mix and now just use the main feed for monitors
