VoiceTone Synth help

Hi,

I just purchased a VoiceTone Synth and can not get any sounds out of it.  I've watched the videos, read the manuals and before I return it, I'm looking for advice to see if I've done anything wrong.

I've plugged in my microphone into the synth and set the input level so the light shows up green (or orange when I get loud).  I've plugged another balanced microphone cable into my PA system.

The unit makes a low buzzing sound when plugged in.  None of the effects work and I can not hear my voice going through the system out to the PA.  I've tried it auto & my guitar plugged in.  I've tried it with a set key. 

I've tried it with buttons on and off.  I've tried plugging my microphone's cable into the 2nd cable (which I use for the output of the foot pedal to the PA) and that works.

I've even plugged into the dry out to the PA and no sound comes out.

Is there anything else I should try or should I pack it up and return it?
