Topic: Frustrations with syncing

Hi everyone, after three months of trying everything I know to link my drum machine tempo (Alesis SR-18) to the VLT looper to eliminate problems with human error I'm about to give up.

If anyone has had any luck doing this please get back to me, I'd greatly appreciate it and need this function for my live show which could be slamming.

If anyone working for the company knows how to do this I'd love that to.  It seems my drum machine only sends out Midi Clock.  Is there any way to make these two talk or is my time and frustration pointless?  Is this a function that is in development for a future firmware release?

Re: Frustrations with syncing

Hi rick,

VLT doesn't accept MIDI clock. There was another post outlining how to send CC's (I think someone did it with a sampler) to get the times to sync. You might want to look at that thread to see what might work for your gear.

Cheers,
Craig

Re: Frustrations with syncing

Will the VLT ever accept MIDI clock?  My well-programmed beat machine won't send control changes on bar starts..

Cheers..!

Re: Frustrations with syncing

Hi Rick,

It's not something that's on the radar at the moment. Our priority right now is addressing the issues that have been reported and getting out an update.

It's a cool idea, but I don't know if it will make it into the product in the future or not.

Re: Frustrations with syncing

Noone else thinks this would be useful?  Is MIDI clock something outdated?  Am I the only one having issues with this?  Even at my best I can't sync it up by feel.

Re: Frustrations with syncing

Evidently CC44 isn't a very common MIDI controller. I looked at a few pieces of MIDI gear I have and couldn't find it implemented, then again most of my gear is kind of old technology.

As sort of a work around would it be feasible to record the audio of your SR18 drum pattern as a loop into the VLT and build subsequent looping layers on top of that. Not what you originally wanted to do, but it's the only thing I can think of that might come close.
