Re: VoiceLive 2 freezing

Hold on everyone...lets not get our panties in a bundle.  Yes there may be a problem here, but lets give them time to take it apart piece by piece.  From reading this forum it seems that a lot of you folks are from the UK and other areas.  Could it be an electrical service problem.  How about provide a list here of individuals location ( England, Asia, Canada, USA, ETC)... and when and how the freezing occurred.  This may help.  I have experienced in the past that electronic failure in electronic equipment has always been a simple overlooked item. I notice in my Yamaha Motif XS 8 and VL2 even though I have ONLY channel 1 being sent to my VL2 and ONLY Channel 1 set to receive midi on my VL2 I still get the Midi indicater on my VL2 lighting up indicating that Midi is being received even when I am not playing the keyboard for harmony achivement.  Midi is being played in XS's sequencer but no midi should be receive by the VL2 until I start playing the keyboard.  Maybe there is a problem there and something is not blocking the full midi sequence from entering the VL2 and filling it with data that it cant handle all at once. MIDI OVERLOAD Hmmmmmm????

Keep trying Craig and we will all  be as patient as we can. GIGO

Re: VoiceLive 2 freezing

Hello everyone,

My dealership manager is replacing my VL2, virtually no questions asked on provision of the evidence herein. That's good service and one which ensures my continued business with them and TC Helicon.

Everyone involved in my dilemma, including TC Helicon, have been very courteous and supportive for which I extend my thanks to each and every one. I now look forward to using my new VL2 for a very long time to come without issue.

If any new reader of this thread should read its contents they would instantly realise that all I wished for from the outset was a working and stable device. Not a great deal to ask really wink

The VL2 is a great piece of kit and one which many would gladly 'take on board' if given the chance. I truly feel privileged to be able to afford this great piece of technology. I'm confident that Craig and the "TC" development team will resolve the "freeze" condition very soon.

This is not the end of my relationship with this forum and its members, I will continue to read it daily and hopefully contribute wherever I can. There is a great buzz in giving than just receiving, an old attitude I know but one which is still immensely worthy.

On the basis on our member 'bullseye101d's post above I took the action of continually monitoring the VL2 for about ten minutes to see if any spurious MIDI was going into it from my keyboard. Not a thing, the tiny MIDI icon on the VL2 remained unlit until I pressed a key. That's not to say the same is applicable to all keyboards.

Kindest regards to all,

John in the UK

Johntee

I took special interest of your last paragraph in your post.  Gave me food for thought that possibly I have something either hidden in my track 1/channel 1 sequence or something is bleeding into the VL2 from my Motif XS 8 sequencer. I have the filter set in the VL2 to filter out Sysexc and program changes.  Maybe I need to do more.  Thanks for the eye opener Johntee and I certainly will look in deeper.

Re: VoiceLive 2 freezing

Hi all,    Johntee   I followed my own suggestion and double checked for midi bleed from my Yamaha Motif xs8 in to my VL2.  Well yesterday I had the time to check it out, and to my surprose the "Midi Light " on the VL2 will come on even though I was not playing any keys on the keyboard. As I stated in my previous post above. " I use channel 1/track 1 to send midi to my VL2 for harmonies.  I Played a song from the onboard XS8's sequencer and the midi lite kept comming on. I went in to the systems setting on my VL2 and shut off  all the midi receive channels. (MIDI = OFF) Yet I still had the light come on.  I found that to be very strange. Now I am wondering if that is the reason for all the bad sounding harmonies.  Anyone out there have any suggestions for me.

Best regards

I'm taking a guess this may be the MIDI clock signal being sent from the XS8 sequencer. It appears the clock signal might be used to control the tempo of delay in the VL2. Not sure this can be filtered out or not.
Do your harmonies sound OK if not using the sequencer?

Thanks for your come back on my problem.  I will have to try it with a guitar and see what happens.  But... come to think of it a guitar would not send any midi....hmmmmm?  I noticed on one of my sequences not only was the MIDI lite coming on the "NP" was coming on even though I was not even touching the keyboard.  Very strange.  Will try to research further.

Best regards,

Re: VoiceLive 2 freezing

Hi guys,

Definitely take a look at both the keyboard options for what it sends via MIDI, maybe there's a Notes Only mode, and also look at the VL2's MIDI filters. PC+Sysex comes to mind for VL2.

We're actively looking at all that stuff on our end too.

Thanks for continuing to help us get this tracked down!

Re: VoiceLive 2 freezing

Hi all,

Good news! We've FINALLY tracked down and solved the "random MIDI freezing" issue. It was a super frustrating process, where we sometimes had to wait days for the unit to lock up and then had to back track the actual crash. Big ups to the dev's on this one for keeping at it.

I've updated the Beta Firmware Test thread with a link to the new software. If this issue has affected you in the past, please give the beta a shot and verify that everything is ok.

Remember to back up your presets and your system settings, just in case.
