Topic: VLT output maxing out house mixing board channel

I use a VLT with MP-75 mic with no issues on smaller PA setups with VLT output set at 0 dB in advanced settings. But at pre-gig sound checks at (more than one) larger clubs, the VLT maxes out the house mixer input channel. VLT input gain knob is set at ~3 o'clock as best sutied for my voice.  Output set to mono.  Aux set to off.  I've adjusted Advanced Setting Output level to lower dB levels, very low dB levels, and even off, but house mixer channel still maxed out.  Sound person has also tried activating pad on mixer channel but this did not help.  Searched numerous similar threads on this forum and others but have not found a solution.  I'm totally stumped. Any help greatly appreciated.

Use DI boxes - I've had to with my Voicelive 2 for a couple venues -

Re: VLT output maxing out house mixing board channel

Hiya,

The VLT is relatively "hot". Don't be afraid to turn the inputs at the mixer all the way down (and pad if necessary).

If that doesn't work, using the TRS outs right into a DI will definitely solve the issue. Most larger venues have a bunch of DI's on hand.

Thanks for that advice Jeepers smile

Re: VLT output maxing out house mixing board channel

Thanks much for the advice--I very much appreciate the timely responses.  I've been a little unnerved by this issue since as lead singer I have practiced extensively with my two bands using VLT effects on virtually every setlist song,  only to learn at our recent larger venue gigs (the important ones!) I would have to go on without the VLT just moments before starting the gig because house sound folks could't get it to play nice with their mixer....not fun.

Sounds like VLT TRS OUT into DI boxes is the way to go.  I wasn't smart on "line level" versus "mic level" outputs/inputs, but I know better now.  Venues where I had issues used snakes into mic level mixer input channels.  House sound people tried lowering mixer gain to minimum and adding a pad to attenuate (along with me lowering VLT output level), all to no avail. I'll use DI boxes from here on out, as I have all along for my keyboards.  Thanks again!  dPd
