Topic: Missing function: tap tempo

I know there is a lot of nearly everything in the voicelive play, but there are things missing.

e.g. tapping the tempo (for delay and so on) by footswitch

The footswitches are all in use - but I see at least 2 chances:

a) middel footswitch to be held long --> changes function (like the HIT does)

b) external pedal can be assigned to that function
(assumingly many players like me do not relly need the looping-stuff)

Re: Missing function: tap tempo

even better would be, if the computer could determine the tempo automatically from the guitar-input (for GTX)

controllable by a factor per preset like double/half and so on from the automatically determined tempo

hmm - I don't know - does a function like this generally exist already?

Re: Missing function: tap tempo

Hi Sound Zero,

Tap tempo does exist. You press/hold the Up and HIT button to activate it. Perhaps it was omitted from the manual. I'll check on that.

For A) we can't do that since pressing/holding either the Up or Down footswitch is required for fast scrolling through the presets.

For B) there's usage/features not available in Play that are available in our more elaborate products. We didn't feel like assignable footswitch control was required for the product. It's an amazing value for the price, but it doesn't give the depth of control that you'd get from our flagship products.

Tempo detection from guitar playing is VERY difficult to do. The processing power needed to determine what the beats are and where they are is extremely high and beyond what any of our systems can do with current hardware/software.

It sure would be cool though!

Cheers,
Craig

Re: Missing function: tap tempo

Update: Both Play and GTX manuals somehow had missed Tap Tempo. Oops!

They're both fixed now.

Thanks!

Re: Missing function: tap tempo

Thanks a lot!

One more question: didn't you mix up DOWN and UP in the whole chapter?

At least for my feelings the left button is DOWN and the one in the middle is UP...

Of course you rather say "up and down" than "down and up" wink

edit: not in the whole chapter, but partly... pls re-read it (also the "“alternate” mode for Down and Hit")

Re: Missing function: tap tempo

Maaaaaybe.... Shifty eyes.

Actually, the UP/DN options were covered, but then the change to the manual actually confused the two. It should be better now.

Thanks smile

Re: Missing function: tap tempo

sry - äh - loop mode ... up <-> down...

Re: Missing function: tap tempo

Hi Craig,

to say it in full and understandable sentences:

In the description of LOOP mode in the same chapter the functions of UP and DOWN switches are mixed up.

This is the fact for both Play and Play GTX manual.

Re: Missing function: tap tempo

Heya,

Do you mean the order that they come in the sentence in relation to the order they are on the box (left to right)?

I know the manual says "UP and DOWN" footswitches and the box itself has DOWN on the left and UP in the middle.

If that's what you mean, I guess I didn't find it unclear since they're both pushed simultaneously. If it was an order of operations thing, I'd agree that they should be listed in the order pressed.

Let me know if I'm not understanding what you mean.

Cheers,
Craig

Re: Missing function: tap tempo

"...UP footswitch controls REC/PLAY/OVERDUB ..." --> no, it is the DOWN

"...DOWN footswitch controls the UNDO/CLEAR ..." --> this is the UP

as I asked before: plese re-read the whole chapter. I did not, I just report what I see by chance.

Re: Missing function: tap tempo

Well, we've got a bit of egg on our face with this one.

The prototype units had the UP and DOWN footswitch silkscreen images reversed from the production units. You'll notice that the actual LCD graphics while in loop mode show UP on the left and DOWN in the middle, which is what the manual reflects. We'll do an update soon with the graphic swapped and I'll update the manual to relate to the printed arrows on the unit.

Re: Missing function: tap tempo

I think you guys really dropped the ball on this one. I have been a long time supporter of your products you where the first people to put auto tune in a pedal and lots of other cool things. Well timed vocal delays are crucial and I'm sorry but pressing 2 buttons at the same time while I'm happy its at least there its to much to ask in a live scenario. Respectfully it was the difference in me deciding whether i should buy it or not. I know how you are talking about having this be more for fun and less for the serious musician but realistically the only person who is going to shell out 250 or whatever for this thing is someone who is serious about it, poor working coffee shop in our spare time artists like myself sadly don't have the money for the voice live 2. Please please please do an edit and let us use an external pedal for tap tempo. Its a big deal

Re: Missing function: tap tempo

Hi DeathBeak,

I thought the same thing myself while we were talking about that functionality in early development meetings. The other guys urged me to wait and try it for myself once we had actual hardware to try.

I thought it was going to be a pain in the butt, but in reality it took about 5 mins. to get used to using the 2 buttons for Tap and Loop.

If you've not actually had a chance to give it a shot, I'd really suggest you at least try it out at a local store once stock starts coming in. Spend a good few minutes with it and see if you still feel the same way.

That said, if it's a deal breaker for you, then it's just not the right product for your needs. That's ok. We can't ever make a box that works the way every customer wants it to. We just try to find a happy medium and then urge people to remember that, just like learning to sing or play an instrument, using these boxes efficiently in a live setting takes practice to really get rocking.

Cheers,
Craig

Re: Missing function: tap tempo

Please help. Loop feature does not work cause I live voice play

Re: Missing function: tap tempo

Hi vuralkaya,

Make sure that UP/DN Function in the setup menu is set to LOOPING. If you aren't on the latest firmware, your unit may have been set to Set Key for UP/DN at the factory.
