Topic: VL2 cuts out when screaming???

Hi,
I have been using/tweaking the VL2 at home, and love its capabilities.
When I get to practice it works fine on the singing, but cuts out durring the
extreme high or low screams.

At home, it is just me with the acoustic....is this the right piece of equip. to handle a full-volume metal show??

Anyone having the same issues?
Any suggestions?

Thanks a million....Peace!

Re: VL2 cuts out when screaming???

Hey jb, i can vow for the VL2 in full-volume metal show. I used it on tour with my doom metal band in amsterdam and belgium, and i use it regularly with the cover band in any genre. We often do "themed" shows where i sing, pantera, type o negative, korn, and so on. It never failed me yet.

The only real problem is with the harmonies. In a metal show, both drummers hit hard, have big crash cymbals/chinas, big guitar rigs, and often small stages, rendering the harmonies useless. I use it only when i know it will work, or tweaked to -10 or 12 dB just to give that "extra thing". (i drive my band mates crazy, begging them to sing along! lolo)

If your having problems cutting, it might be the gate. Do not use AUTO setting! In a loud gig, the mic will get so much noise, that it will start gating the mic like hell (tried it once at rehearsal).

But you can describe what settings your using, and the tech guys in the forum, will likely help you sort it out.

Re: VL2 cuts out when screaming???

Hey Daiwana,

Thanks for taking the time to help a brotha' out  smile
I'll go in and play with the gate some more...
...I thought I had it tweaked (the VL2, not me),  I got it to stop cutting out when I was screaming at the house but was still having the same problem at practice where everything is much louder.

Thanks again!

Re: VL2 cuts out when screaming???

Try setting your gain level to handle the screams and over all louder atmosphere. After you do this you may have to tweak it again to pick up your softer vocals. To set gain just push down the reverb switch and hold it, you know have 5 seconds to set your mic gain control so sing as hard as you can and as soft as you can to get the full spectrum. Hope this helps you and good luck with your projects. Peace.

Re: VL2 cuts out when screaming???

At the risk of sounding like an idiot....I'll post it for anyone else out there who might experience the same problem:

When setting the gain through holding down the reverb switch, I was only singing loudly, not doing the softer more melodic parts.  So, the VL2 wasn't able to pick up the full spectrum of levels.  When I went back and did both softer singing AND the screaming (durring the gain setting)....the problem of cutting out was resolved.

Thanks to the two who responded...hope this helps someone else.
Good luck .... Good jammin'
