Topic: Invisalign treatment whilst singing

I'm looking into having Invisalign or braces
I was wondering if you know of any side effects of either whilst singing?
The orthodontist told me once you get used to either braces or Invisalign your speech and singing should become normal again. I have read that I may get a dryer mouth & headaches with the treatment. Any one know of singers who have Invisalign/braces, and what problems they might have had, In particular singers using Invisalign. The bonus is with Invisalign you can remove the trays, whereas braces you can't.

Thanks smile

Dont know... my guess is that is that its not going to make one hoot of a difference in changing your sound as the addition of braces would not seemingly impact your formant to any consequence... I dont think there is anything to worry about.

Yes, once you get use to the braces , it will actually benefit your singing! Operatic singing is more in the head, modern technique is more dental however the tighter your teeth are in the semi round the of a dome is created for resonance, espeacially in more dental singing( speech level)
I am actually considering dental implaints, since i had my wisdom teeth removed and another tooth pull that i had cracked , my front teeth shifted (there is a small gap) in more dental singing the air escapes there through, slightly lightening the sound( not really noticable to people listening in general) but i do notice. Should only be a benefit for you once you've become accoustom to it.

Well, I vividly remember the pain from wearing braces.  The discomfort could create tension in your jaw and therefore in your singing especially in the days following your orthodontist appointments.  Let's not forget, affect your moods!

Re: Invisalign treatment whilst singing

There's a Yahoo singing group that this question was previously raised on, and others had tried this.

www.VocalPosture.com has unique singing-related content-- posture and voice, vocal structure, ergonomics, Zen and ancient philosophies' relevance to voice.  www.WebBIZcard.com is also in blog stage. Thanks

Search for theVoalist in Yahoo! groups.   Then do a search there.   I seem to recall reading this.

Re: Invisalign treatment whilst singing

hey rockout, my daughters riding instructor uses invisalign...and for the first two weeks that she used it, her speech was definitely affected....had almost a soft "lispy" quality, when this lady has developed a lung capacity and resonance i totally envy....(she "talks" to her students across a huge open arena when she is teaching them how to do hunter/jumper, and they HAVE to hear her..) so if they affected her I would expect they would affect most anyone. but tha good news is that her speech has returned to normal, it just takes some getting used to  im guessing...

Thanks WebAndNet & Rychemaiden
I could not find that site on yahoo groups relating to this topic unfortunately sad
Cool ok so a bit lispy 4 a lil while, I can deal wid that haha. Good to hear it didn't interfere with her projection, i didn't think that would be an issue, but is great to know 1st hand. Not long now til i get em... i'm thinkin the vowel sounds may be a lil altered during the 1st 2 weeks of practice, due to my tongue resting on them and moving around the aligners....

Hey Rock Out - I'm sure you'll adjust with ease- I have faith in you! so don't stress yourself about it thats not going to help and ultimately if it is difficult the resistance of it will just make you and your diction stronger in the long run.

Millions of people believe they have what it takes to become a famous singer. For you to break through, you will need more than just talent. You will need patience, dedication and perhaps even a little luck. Give yourself a chance by taking the right steps to get ahead.

1. Try out for "American Idol"
This may be the long shot, but others have tried and succeeded, so why not you? Find out when the show is going on the road to audition talent, and arrive plenty early.

2. Try a Talent Agency
Seek out talent agencies or a singing agent, and find out which ones are willing to take a look at new talent. Talent Box provides an online resource with a wide variety of agents seeking musically qualified new artists.

3.Try acting and singing
Try acting and singing in new media formats, such as Youtube. To stand out, you must be creative in these videos. Get friends together to create a web series to showcase your talent

4. make sure you love singing and acting as an art form, and that you are not solely in it for the fame and money.

5. Take voice lessons. Lessons are great for novice singers to learn proper singing practices, as well as for experienced singers who wish to further develop their technique
