Topic: LLOKING FOR A GOOD MONITOR FOR SMALL SHOWS

Hi there!
I am singer of rock and heavy metal music.
I am looking for  good and light speakers TO BRING with me for shows in bars, thats why I need light ones.
Can you recomend me a good one?
I need the speakers to get a better sound of my voice because I am not ok with the sound that some o most of the bars where we play has here in my city.

JBL SRX712M with light QSC amplifier...

Re: LLOKING FOR A GOOD MONITOR FOR SMALL SHOWS

I use both the VSM200 and the VSM300 paired on stage....they sound great. I play keys, so I have them up on a pair of mic stands to get them up at the board height. I can hear myself sing and monitor the keys this way too....awesome.

Re: LLOKING FOR A GOOD MONITOR FOR SMALL SHOWS

I was just going to get some Voicetones for smaller gigs, where our Ohm TRS115 won't fit on stage.
Anyway, our local shops offer both VSM-300 and VSM-300 XT - I just can't find any information about the non-XT version on tc-helicon website.
Shop's website says both are 6.5", 150W active and come with I/O-Box - only difference seems to be the price: 185,- vs. 299,- EUR.

Is there any reason to go for the XT version?

The XT is a later release,

If you want to do a direct comparison, go to Musicians Friend and type VSM in the search box.

Here is the blurb from the page "The VSM-300XT VoiceSoloXT Active Personal Monitor from TC Helicon offers improved sound, better looks, and a lower price than the original model."

It looks (from a cursory glance) that they are the same.....maybe someone from the company could ellaborate on that.

Re: LLOKING FOR A GOOD MONITOR FOR SMALL SHOWS

I also wanted something I could carry as my klipsch 15" KSM1 weighs a ton! plus it needs power. so i bought a Harbinger APS 15 powered PA spkr. It'll  stand upright on it's 3 big rubber feet, or use the pole mount, or as a wedge. It was designed as a wedge w/ built in handle. All the controls are easily accessible too. Durable modeled case, 15 inch spkr behind a nice` looking metal grill & large horn, It looks nice really.

Plus it has a 200 watt amp (rated 180 continuous) built in. Then a 5 band graphic EQ, 2 balanced mic XLR w/ 1/4" ins, 1 XLR w/ stereo RCA's line input, and one XLR / 1/4 line out. 3 volume controls and a master. All for $200 bucks!

How can you go wrong? It's solid but not too heavy. 35 pounds I think. it's durable, looks and sounds good too. can do double duty as a PA. I'm happy with mine that's for sure.

Re: LLOKING FOR A GOOD MONITOR FOR SMALL SHOWS

I just started using the VSM300 after using floor wedges fro the last 3 years. I can not express in words how much better it is with the little monitor. In really love it. I play almost every weekend and now I really like it so much more.

Re: LLOKING FOR A GOOD MONITOR FOR SMALL SHOWS

Hi Kiski,The best monitors for the sound and light weight, are Italian RCF 310A which are powered speakers but are only about 10kg each and have a 350watt amp built in to them.i use them on the main vocals along with a sub bass cabinet, but on there own they have enough bass for any vocals, are clear and punchy, but cost in the U.K. was £600 a pair.you can carry one in each hand no bother.they will do bars with crowds of 150-200 people great speakers Ian.

Re: LLOKING FOR A GOOD MONITOR FOR SMALL SHOWS

ill get hammered for this i use a pair of jrx jbl speakers. every once in a while i take my finger and allow the sound that resonates from within the skull to verify pitch without any interfearance especially the first time i sing a chorus in a song

Take a look at the Galaxy Audio 'hot spot'. I use two of them for my band and they're great. One slaves off the other. They're small, less than the size of a loaf of bread, put out 100 watts each of flawless audio each and aren't that pricey. I run my mics and instruments through a Mackie 12VLZ Pro, which also helps the sound quality.        Stewfish

Re: LLOKING FOR A GOOD MONITOR FOR SMALL SHOWS

I'll have to agree with the RCF 310's. I've used comparable Mackie and JBL models and, as a personal preference, the RCFs sounded better and put out more than enough sound to cover what i sounds like you need.

Re: LLOKING FOR A GOOD MONITOR FOR SMALL SHOWS

If you are gigging on a regular base or even when you're rehearsing every week or so, it really pays off to go in-ear. Loud music can and will do serious hearing damage!
With an in-ear monitorset (preferrably custom made earpieces) you keep out a lot of backgroundnoise so you can make a perfect and personal monitormix. You can turn down the volume of your monitormix way down because you can hear everything nice and clear. Another advantage of lower volumes is that it is less tiring: you'll have energy left when you leave the stage smile

Re: LLOKING FOR A GOOD MONITOR FOR SMALL SHOWS

VSM300 is awesome- I let the sound guy do whatever he wants because I set my own monitor levels without affecting his levels or the other players levels. No trying to get his attention or anything- just set or reset whatever whenever. Very nice!

Re: LLOKING FOR A GOOD MONITOR FOR SMALL SHOWS

I've used the VSM300 and I wouldn't describe it as "awesome" in fact I've found it pretty average with regard to sound "quality". Now it may be that there is something wrong with mine as I bought it second hand, but it's certainly no substitute for a very cheap floor monitor, the overall sound being very "tinny". Perhaps I've bought a duff one!

Re: LLOKING FOR A GOOD MONITOR FOR SMALL SHOWS

QSC K10's are loud and light.  That is a great combo.  They also sound very good...

Re: LLOKING FOR A GOOD MONITOR FOR SMALL SHOWS

Hey what did you wind up with?  How are they working?

Re: LLOKING FOR A GOOD MONITOR FOR SMALL SHOWS

Hi,

I'm using this:

Either for a pub gig (as pa + mixer + fx) or as a monitor for a big band gig. It sounds great and offers easiest setup. It's just not cheap ;-)

Best regards,
