Topic: Next Upgrade: save CUSTOM SCALES in own list

Hi!
I work with the VoiceworkPlus, and I love it.
There's only one thing I really don't like:
you have to save Custom Scales of Harmony Voices within a preset. I need many different custom scales in each song so I have to program many presets / song.
It would REALLY be cool to have extra "Custom Scale Presets". It's hard for me to describe in English. What I mean is the ability to program many custom scales and then save them in a list just like the normal presets, so that you have Custom Scale #1, Custom Scale #2, and so on ...
So I could create one preset for each song (with my effects and so on) and then choose within a song via midi what custom scale I want (you know, I control the VWP via midi).
The best way for you to do this (in my opinion) would be to have the abilty to choose from the following Scales in the end:
- Major 1
- Major 2
- Major 3
- Minor 1
- Minor 2
- Minor 3
- Custom 1
- Custom 2
.....
- Custom 999

big_smile

This would also correct some bugs with the custom scale that are existing today.
Please think about it, this cannot be so hard to make?!
And it would make things much easier and more reliable.
And please don't forget to give MIDI-CCs to everything, so I can still control everything via my MIDI-footcontroller.

I hope you understand what I'm writing, sorry for my bad english!

Thank you!
Best regards,
ben

Hiya benkenobi,

Thanks so much for sharing this. The best place to share ideas so that the right eyes read them is via TC-Helicon's website.... under "feedback", click "share an idea".

I’m curious though... regarding what types of custom scales you're using. Anyway, there is a way to set custom scales on the fly with system exclusive if you're comfortable with that. Otherwise you could create duplicates of your favorite sounding presets each with a slightly modified custom scale. If you get in touch with TC-Helicon's support team ( www.tc-helicon.com/support.asp ), they'll be able to talk you through how to do this.

Best wishes,

Joey

Re: Next Upgrade: save CUSTOM SCALES in own list

Thanks for your answer. In theory everything can be changed via sysex messages, but it's impossible to work with it.

Why is it impossible:
You need sysex messages for CHANGES!! Let's say you change the first harmony from note C to note F, if your input note is a G. Do it, and some sysex messages will be sent. Let's turn back time, let's do this again, but this time you want the note C to become a E (instead of F), your input note is still a G. Now there are totally different sysex messages that are sent, even though there is just ONE LITTLE DIFFERENCE than before, just one little semi-tone in your first harmony (!).

When could people work with it:
I could work with sysex messages, if the whole thing would work a little different:
Each possible custom scale (there are a lot!!!) gets described by some sysex messages.
Let's say you have got this custom scale:

Key C
Input   H1   H2   H3   H4
C       C    C    C    C
C#     C# C# C# C#
D       D    D    D    D
......
B       B    B    B    B

(I know, in reality there's no need for this scale)

If this custom scale would be represented by a large number of sysex messages, I could live with it, and more important, I could work with it, because my midi controller can send as many midi messages as I want.

Again, the point is: at the moment, changes are represented by sysex messages. There must be a way to describe each possible custom scale by sysex messages too, no mather how long they become?!?
If that would be possible, then I could work with it and I wouldn't need this extra list of saved custom scales, that I was talking about in my first post.
Because then I would create a custom scale in the vyzor editor, and when I'm finished, I'll press the "turn custom scale into sysex messages"-button (which does not exist at the moment of course) and everytime I wanna use such a complex custom scale I only would have to send these sysex messages to my VW+ and .... TATA!!!

I don't think that this will be possible in the future. That is why I still want a own list for custom scales, that would be the much easier way to solve everything.

I hope you understand what I'm talking about, it's SO HARD TO DESCRIBE EVERYTHING!

If you DO understand me, and if you think that this custom scale list is a good idea (IT IS!!! big_smile ), could you do me a favour:
could YOU get in contact with the support and share this idea?!?
This would be awesome, I think you could describe it much better that I can, because my english is not the best. Furthermore, it really does make a difference if YOU or such a insignificant user like me is asking to integrate a new feature.

Maybe I should mention one more thing:
this feature that I'm talking about would make the VW+ perfect. That's no lie. I really love it and it does everything I want, except of this little custom scale problem. So could you help me making the VW+ perfect (at least for me)? big_smile

best regards
ben

Re: Next Upgrade: save CUSTOM SCALES in own list

Hiya Ben,

I’ll certainly forward your request for consideration and add it to our suggestions database, but as far as I know, we have no plans for an update to VoiceWorks Plus at this time.

I'd be interested if perhaps you could forward a few of the scales you require in your music?

Best wishes,

Joey

Re: Next Upgrade: save CUSTOM SCALES in own list

It sad to hear that there won't be any updates for the VW+.
I guess there's a new unit coming out?!

Well, my scales ...
sometimes I don't want the 2nd voice to follow my lead voice exactly, then I program my custom scales. It won't make any sense if I post any of my custom scales now.

Joey, thanks for your efforts and for listening.

Best regards
ben
