I am a professionally trained female vocalist and finding vocal work is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. This information is invaluable and I am pleased to say that I have done exactly that - played musician evenings for what seems like forever and as the music business is very incestuous, I have now built a reputation and gained respect from fellow musicians in and around my city, so that's a result in itself. I just want to gain work further afield and would like to work with professionals. I have been in the business for fifteen years and it does feel like the whole thing has been one long apprenticeship! I also have a website which I would like some feedback about on a constructive basis - open to offers and opinions please. Karen

Dear Kim
Thank you so much for this inciteful and exciting approach. I am a professional singer who sang with a unique chorus for 13 years. The conductor passed away and the group went each their separate ways. I am 58 and absolutely love to sing. What I have been doing is having my own "recitals" (since 2007, 6 in total) which include pop, jazz, classical, folk, broadway and spirituals. I am having such a great time. But now ..... and here is the clincher, I am unemployed, have completely used up all possible employment insurance benefits and am totally bored and on every level avoiding office work. Thus .... the money seems to be running out fast!!!!!!! So, then I find your web-site which I love. You have inspired me. My feeling is the following. Work at whatever job I can to pay the bills and get a move on. By the way, although I could lose around 25 lbs., people say they really love listening to me sing and that I look great. So I feel very enthusiastic about this 29 year old in a 58 year old body!!!!! Bless you for this fantastic encouragement. Long live music as life and life as music. All the best to you. With appreciation. Mchaela
P.S. Do you have any particular advice further to your article or comments for me? I would be ecstatic if you could help me with this moment of decision!!!
